GI Visit and a Question

We waited 3 months to get into this big GI from Wisconsin Children's

Hospital for my son and his advice to us was loose bowels are normal

in toddlers, he'll grow out of it. And, that we need to expand his

diet - not that what he is eating is bad, it's just weird. It isn't

socially acceptable not to let your child eat what other kids are

having. Needless to say, my husband and I just sat there, smiled, and

resolved to continue our son on the SCD diet. We won't be seeing this

GI again.

Anyway, after 2 months on the diet (stage 1 with some stage 2) Caleb

is starting to have some formation to his stools. We either have

part formed with loose around it or a small, formed stool followd by

a loose diaper 15 minutes later. Anyone else experience this or have

some input?

I am rotating his foods to see if there is a food sensitivity, but

our MD has him on high vitamin C at the moment and I have read that C

can loosen stools.

Thank you!

Liz - Mom to Caleb age 23mo. SCD 2mo.

Hi Liz,

I am so glad that your son's digestion has improved!

Vitamin C can produce loose stools. Decrease the amount until the

stools are firm.

What are you feeding your son?

Are the veggies and fruit cooked, peeled and seeded?

Any manufactured foods?

Supplements?

Liz,

I can't answer your questions, but all I have to say is way to go to you guys.

I hope he'll be one of those MDs that will be dumb founded and made a believer

when you show him your child's progress months down the road.

Yes, vit C can loosen stools. What form of vit C is it? What other

foods is he eating?
