Guest guest
Hello all, I have been following the SCD since November '06, however I restarted the diet in March, this time going more slowly and being extra-cautious to adhere. I wasn't ingesting illegals before (aside from iron supplementation prescribed by doctor), but I did add almond + peanut butters, stewed prunes, etc. after just 3 months and perhaps that is too soon by most standards. I didn't have any adverse effects from adding them so soon, but still, I wanted to be very thorough and do everything right. I still experience bloating occassionally, despite going very slowly with the diet. The bloating is not related to any specific food, and will seem to come on if I have eaten too large a meal, or for no apparent reason. I have no other symptoms. My question is - how does one progress? How do I know when I'm ready for stage 3 foods? How do I know when I am ready for something raw? How do I know when I am ready for, say, a strawberry, seeds and all? For the last two months my diet has consisted of ALL organic turkey, chicken, beef, bison, and tilapia. Veggies are cooked & peeled carrots, green beans, spinach, zucchini, squash, tomato juice (Heinz - just tomato juice + salt). Fruits are apples & pears, cooked and peeled. I just added plums. Supplements all legal (no longer on iron), only fats I've added are butter, coconut oil, and olive oil. [i was tested for food allergies, eggs (whites AND yolks) showed up, as well as all dairy (including goat), and things like bananas, almonds, peanuts, etc. So I have been avoiding these foods on the advice of several alternative health care practitioners (2 naturopaths + 1 chiropractor) to avoid these implicated foods for a while. All agree that they can be added back and that they are likely not true allergies (I had several illegals show up as allergies as well), but rather signs of leaky gut. I have only been omitting these implicated foods since I restarted the diet, in March.] My second question is regarding liver enzymes. Since restarting the diet, my liver enzymes have become elevated. I'm also incredibly fatigued, irritable, having sleep disturbances, funny taste in my mouth, etc. My naturopath suspects the high protein content of my diet (I eat meat 4-5 times a day) is affecting my liver, but if not that, perhaps a virus. I have not seen my doctor regarding these results yet (my appt. isn't until tomorrow), but I was just wondering if anyone has had this occur in their own situations, and how they handled it/remedied the situation. In March, when I had my second most recent blood test, my liver enzymes were all normal, and I was eating meat maybe 2-3 times a day (prior to the re-start I was including eggs/yogurt/legal cheese, so these foods were part of the protein intake for the day - I don't know if dairy/eggs are as difficult on the liver as meat?). Other changes in the last 2 months: I came off Entocort, according to doctor's instructions. This is particularly interesting because my liver was functioning normally the whole time I was on the medication (11 months), but now that I've come off it, the enzymes are up. Sorry this is so long! I've been sticking it out with this diet for so long with minimal improvements, mostly because I didn't have amny symptoms when I started, so it's hard to judge " progress " . I'm commited to the diet because I have experienced SOME improvement, and I do believe it's better for me than eating a lot of the processed garbage out there. Thanks for your time and your wisdom! If I just need to wait and see what my doctor says, then that's fine. I just thought I'd pick the SCD brains out here to get ideas for what I could do about this. Thanks again! Guest guest
, It is possible that you are going through a very long die off reaction. You probably have a lot of gram negative bacteria. When gram negative bacteria die they emit much higher doses of LPS, a bacterial toxin. More info about LPS:: www.microbialinfluence.com Elevated Liver Enzymes may be a result of LPS: http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/full/94/6/2557 You asked:- how does one progress? This webpage might help: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/begindiet1.html Please stay away from peanut butter and other advanced foods till you are symptom free. The road to healing is sometimes very slow but you are on the right track. Congratulations for having the courage to restart the diet! Guest guest
I was curious about this myself and did a quick google. I can't find a high protein diet association with liver enzyme elevation. This site was informative. http://www.medicinenet.com/liver_blood_tests/article.htm Good luck with the doctor's appt. Hope it unearths something that is helpful. - wrote: Hello all, I have been following the SCD since November '06, however I restarted the diet in March, this time going more slowly and being extra-cautious to adhere.
