Bromhexine Hydrochloride seems to work

Hi,I have had CP for about 8 years and found some weeks ago an

interesting article about a study carried out by a Japanese doctor

that showed Bromhexine Hydrochloride may have the effect of alleviating

the pain caused by alcoholic pancreatitis.

Since mine is alcohol-induced, I asked my doctor to prescribe the

medicine made of this chemical substance. I have been taking it since

and I do feel it works.

Bromhexine Hydrochloride has long been used as medication againt cold.

It also seems to work against CP by making fluids in pancreas (sorry

for lack of vocabulary) less viscous.

It's a pity that the original article is written in Japanese

http://medwave2.nikkeibp.co.jp/wcs/leaf?CID=onair/medwave/mdps/370207

but I have just found an English website with the related subject

(though it only shows the title of a thesis)

I don't know what the medicine containing this is called in the US.

But as far as I am concerned, it works.

Hisao,

Thank you for this information. This is the type of information that

bears further study, it would be most beneficial if it did help with

pancreas pain. My only concern would be, naturally, what would be

the the long term affects of bromhexine hydrocloride on a human body?

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi

Heidi,

Thank you for your warmhearted message. I really appreciate it.

Bromhexine hydrochloride has been in long use as expectorant in

Japan.

Apparently, it is not so popular in US, which is kind of strange to

me. I checked the Internet to find out English websites dealing with

the side-effects of this and could barely find one from South Africa.

From what I learned in Japanese websites, this medicine has no major

side-effects and seems very safe to take even for a long time.

In fact, a Japanese medical site which seems to give info of all the

drugs available in Japan even lists this as a drug for pancreatitis!

(for during an episode,though)
