Guest guest
Hello, I haven't posted in awhile. We have been going super slow until the past 3 weeks. My son had a stomach virus or something on Thursday night. He was vomitting with no fever. He has not vomitted since then but he has complained of gas and his tummy hurting since then. I know he has gas because he is bloated and is passing it, burping and the other:). I have just introduced raw banana. His BM's remained formed and the color is fine. I then introduced Honey Dew Melon juice that I juiced myself. Could this be the culprit? Other than the gas returning he is doing great on SCD! I have had to do quite a bit of changes around the house for his behavior but that has settled. It ends up he was reacting to our soaps and the handsoap that the daycare just started using. He no longer uses the soap at daycare or at home and his behavior improved completely. Both soaps contained salicylates! Now we are just dealing with the gas. Have I introduced the fruits too soon? Thanks in advance! Hinojosa Mother to Benito, 3.5yo, ASD, Celiac, SCD since 2/14/2007 supps are MSM, Molybdenum, VSL#3 and melatonin
Guest guest
, The honeydew very well may be the culprit. I know when I gave Garrett some watermelon (after being on the diet for 10 months), he had very watery diarrhea. He had the same reaction with raw orange. My boys do well with cooked pear, raw banana, and raw papaya. Sometimes cooked apple. Dana Hinojosa wrote: Hello, I haven't posted in awhile. We have been going super slow until the past 3 weeks. Guest guest
, I agree with Dana. You should pull out the mellon. If you look at the stages chart, mellons are not in the earlier phases. When I first started SCD for my son 13 months ago, I did a very long counseling session with Jody Goddard. She is so busy with the Autism One stuff now that she doesn't counsel any longer...a bummer because she is incredible. Anyway, she had told me that so many people have difficulty with the mellon family. I haven't even tried it with my son yet. For the most part, we have progressed very slowly and cautiously. I probably have been overly cautious about moving on, but I'd rather play it safe. If the gas persists after pulling the mellon, I'd suggest trying some natural antifungals like olive leaf extract and oil of oregano. You'd use a couple of drops per day in a drink or food. You'd want to rotate the two antifungals every couple of weeks, so that the bad gut bugs don't become " immuned " to their potency. Personally, I give the natural antifungal in the morning. I have starting giving the probiotics in the evening. Also, I'd suggest using Candex to help combat any yeast issues if the gas persists. I give that in the evening with the probiotic. It has cleared up any remaining gas and burping issues that reappearred. Meleah Gas and Bloating Hello, I haven't posted in awhile. We have been going super slow until the past 3 weeks. When you juiced the honeydew melon did it remove the pulp (some juicers do/others don't)? A lot of pulp(fiber) may be at the root of the gas). Did you start with a small amount of each and gradually increase it? Part of the problem may have been that he wasn't over the stomach virus. I think it may be best to avoid introducing new items until all flu symptoms have cleared for a few days. When you introduce a food start with a small amount and gradually increase it. << Hinojosa > Mother to Benito, 3.5yo, ASD, Celiac, SCD since 2/14/2007 > supps are MSM, Molybdenum, VSL#3 and melatonin >> VSL#3 is SCD illegal because it contains cornstarch and Bifidum bacteria. The bifidum may be having a " party " with the legal carbs. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23 yrs mom of and
Guest guest
Hello Sheila, Yes, I believe they are having a party and I am just now figuring this out. I believe it is the VSL #3....it was great at first but now he seems to be going through die off symptoms or at least he is acting like he did when we first started SCD. I have taken away the VSL and am now back on SCDopholis with him. I believe he is reacting to not getting the VSL. Is this possible? I have begun the process to get an SCD Counselor because I feel like we have lost our footing over here. Today, he has had chicken, carrots, homemade mayo in the chicken and then cooked, roast beef (roasted at home), scrambled eggs. I pretty much have him on the intro today. The only supps I have given him for 2 days is the SCDopholis and melatonin. Thanks for any help. I believe also I was introducing foods and then giving him too much. Anyway, I need some help on how to do this all over again. Thanks Hinojosa, mother to Benito, 3.5 yo, ASD Celiac, SCD since 2/14/07 > > Hi , > > << I haven't posted in awhile. Guest guest
, Melatonin is also listed as illegal, so that could hold things up a bit, too. Have you considered taking that out of his supp routine? Meleah Re: Gas and Bloating Hello Sheila, Yes, I believe they are having a party and I am just now figuring this out. Guest guest
Hi Robin, Yes, I have considered it but Patti had found some information that said it is permisible. Elaine had said something like if you have to have it then go ahead. If there are no illegals in the supplement, no one can figure why it is illegal. Do you know why? Thanks > > > > Hi , > > > > << I haven't posted in awhile. We have been going super slow until > > the past 3 weeks. My son had a stomach virus or something on > > Thursday > night. Guest guest
Hi Meleah, Tonight I didn't give him any melatonin and he went to bed fine...I am needing to restart the SCD for what seemed like minor infractions but apparently there are no minor infractions.
