Hi, folks...

Sorry I've been missing in action the last several months, and apologies if

I owe anyone any emails. Also apologies if you see this more than once.

I've been SCD for over 6 years, and I'm old school, fanatical adherence.

Even through the chaos of evacuating for Hurricane Katrina, and the extreme

disruption to our city, I stayed SCD.

Even old timers can get caught out.

Our family loves brie cheese, and my brie sauce recipe was the first one I

posted to an SCD list, lo, these many years ago. Not long ago, my husband,

who loves brie, but hates peeling it, fount a product by Alouette called

Creme de Brie, which contained brie cheese, water, and sodium phosphate.

We decided to try it -- and I was OK with it. Naturally, I would not

recommend this product to anyone on 100% SCD: this was a personal choice,

something I could add in after so much healing has taken place.

However, $42 worth of butter, dry curd cottage cheese, and creme de brie

will soon be thrown out. Not to mention the organic spinach.

Why? Because some time between their batch with a " best by 03/20/07 " date

and a batch with a " best by 05/04/07 " date, Alouette changed the

composition of the product to " brie cheese, water, and stabilizers (xanthan

and/or carob bean and/or guar gums). "

Abruptly, a product which contained no apparent illegals, and which might

be something an SCDer who was well healed could try, is totally, utterly,

and completely illegal. With no warning, no change in the UPC code,

nothing. I was making a large batch of brie spinach to take with me (it

freezes well) as a vegetable I can have that's fancy. Now I get to start

all over.

All because I didn't think to look at each and every label of each and

every product, each and every time I use it.

The contact website for Alouette is

http://alouettecheese.com/contact.htm

I respectfully request that as many people as can go to that website and

complain about this change in their product. My letter to them is below my

signature. Thank you.

Sir or Madam,

Our family likes brie. When we first discovered Alouette, we were

delighted. It contained

brie cheese, water, and sodium phosphate. And no " illegals, " our name for

things we cannot

have.

This is to advise you that we will no longer be purchasing your product and

that I will be

warning the other 4000+ people on the Internet lists who follow our

lifestyle about your

deceptive products.

I have before me two boxes. One box lists the ingredients above. The other

box has your new

formulation. Brie cheese and stabilizers (xanthan and/or carob bean and/or

guar gums).

In other words, your Alouette, while " made with real brie, " is no longer

real brie -- it is

the brie equivalent of American cheese. Alouette bears about as much

resemblance to real

brie as American cheese (cheese-flavored plastic) does to real cheddar

cheese.

Our family, and the other people on the list, as well as many others not

participating

actively on these lists, cannot tolerate these gums for any reason. A

product we could once

use is now another " illegal. "

Moreover, I just had to throw out 6 packages of Alouette, a pound of

butter, a pound of dry

curd cottage cheese, and 6 pounds of organic spinach because of your

inferior, cheating " new

formulation. " Total cost? About $42.00. And, I will not have my dish for a

family

get-together.

I am extremely tired of the way modern food processors continually degrade

and cheapen

American food in the name of making an extra few cents' profit. It is no

wonder digestive

disorders are increasing daily -- cheap flavored junk is presented as real

food.

My family and I will vote with our wallets. We will not purchase your

product or anything

else made by BC-USA ever again. We will warn the thousands of others who

follow our

lifestyle about your company.

I am, by the way, utterly uninterested in receiving coupons for more of

your products as

compensation for the $42.00 worth of food I have to throw out because of

you. Even more

importantly, you wasted several hours of my time. WE WILL NOT BUY YOUR

PRODUCTS EVER AGAIN.

Peeling brie is tedious -- but at least brie in the rind does not (yet)

have junk added to

it.

With grave displeasure,
