Guest guest
Sandy, I have nightmare stories to tell about stents. But about going to the ER with " normal " Amylase & Lipase levels - I had my doc put a note on my chart explaining to the ER physician that I am having an attack even though my levels appear normal. I've had Amylase numbers as high as 45,000. You can't keep doing that forever. Your pancreas just dries up. Anyway, my heart goes out to you. I don't know how to educate these ineducable doctors. I just wish, as I'm sure you do, that they knew what the hell they were doing. In all fairness, they are trained for trauma not GI disorders. Some folks here have tried " doc in the boxes " , those 24 hour emergency med centers that have sprung up all over the country. I have found some very sympathetic docs at those places and they will treat me appropriately. Most can't do A & L blood work without sending it out to a lab. You are done and back home by the time the results come in. There was (is) a doc I respect at one of those and I went to see her one day to tell her I had pancreatitis, I have attacks, and can I come in for 75 mg. of Demerol with some Phenergan when I needed to. She was very supportive, said yes, and made notes for whoever was on duty to take care of me in the manner I suggested. She didn't even charge me for the visit! You may want to try that. Best Regards, Jerry/NC ****************************************
