Guest guest
How can I tell if my daughter's gas is caused by a bacterial overgrowth or yeast? I have never suspected yeast because there is no yeasty smell and she doesn't get diaper rash. But I would like to put her on a prescription antifungal if it might be yeast. Is there any way to tell the difference? Guest guest
I'm not sure how to tell you if the gas is yeast or bacteria because we've always used lab work to check on disbiosis for our son. However, I'd really recommend that you try the natural antifungals first before jumping right in to a prescription one. Most parents report that the yeast comes back when the prescription antifungal is stopped, and that it is much more difficult to get rid of each time you have to use the prescription. Candex is a natural yeast enzyme, and is SCD legal. You can order it on line, or probably buy it at your local health food store. Oil of oregano, olive leaf extract, grapefruit seed extract, and the freshly made carrot juice with a fresh garlic clove crushed into it are all natural methods to treat yeast/bacterial overgrowth. You just want to rotate amongst them to keep the yest/bacteria from building up a resistence to it. Obviously, you would juice the carrots and press the garlic at home. The grapefruit see extract(GSE), oil of oregano(OOO), and olive leaf extract(OLE) can all be purchase easily at a local health food store. Meleah yeast or bacterial overgrowth? Guest guest
Hi Katy, <<How can I tell if my daughter's gas is caused by a bacterial overgrowth or> yeast? I have never suspected yeast because there is no yeasty smell and> she doesn't get diaper rash. But I would like to put her on a prescription> antifungal if it might be yeast. Is there any way to tell the difference?>> I checked back and saw that her bloating went down substantially when she was on the intro diet. That is a very good sign. : ) The fatigue and listlessness that you wrote about sometimes is caused by die off and not by a lack of carbohydrates. " The third day she woke up very lethargic but not bloated " - this is what you want, it likely indicates the body working at flushing the toxins of the dying microbes. Epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal will help ease die off symptoms. It sounds as if you have added foods too fast and too many to be able to tell which are causing trouble. If you redo the intro even for a day or two only, gradually adding 1 food at a time in small amounts and record any reaction to *each* food addition you'll get a good baseline from which to add foods and you'll know which foods are her " safe " foods. Nothing you have written indicates a yeast overgrowth in particular/ just a " garden variety " microbial overgrowth. If you are able to start a good probiotic and/or yogurt that may help with the bloating also. Some Yeast symptoms: thrush, itchy bottom, frothy stools, skin rashes, itchy skin rashes...
