Guest guest
Hello! I recently purchased a bottle of fish oil, but upon getting it home I noticed this on the label: " Contains soy by-products. " I went back to the health food store I bought it from, and the very knowledgeable woman who owns the store (she has a BSc in Nutrition, working on her masters), explained to me that the " soy by-product " is the vitamin E contained in the oil. She further explained that nearly all fish oils would contain vitamin E (as a preservative), and that in most cases this vitamin E was obtained from soy. My question: Does that make it ok to consume the fish oil containing vitamin E derived from soy? Or is this fish oil illegal? If the fish oil is made illegal because of this, what fish oils are unquestionably LEGAL? If most fish oils contain vitamin E, and if this vitamin E is obtained from soy, then have the legal fish oils on pecanbread.com been investigated for this? I was so confused and uncertain, so I ended up returning home without fish oil. Thank you! Crohn's, endometriosis // SCD 11/
Guest guest
Just an addition to my previous post: I am not sure there are actually any " legal " fish oils listed on pecanbread.com, aside from the cod liver oils. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Jun 4, 2007 10:18 AM Subject: fish oil with vitamin E - soy by-product or not? Guest guest
There is a cod liver oil from green pastures that does not contain vitamin E. They are an online company. I think the vitamin E is usually used to preserve it. Green Pastures uses rosemary extract. We have used this product with success. Guest guest
, A nurse practitioner who uses SCD in her clinic recommended Nordic Naturals fish oil for my son. It has a great strawberry flavor and he chews it. The bottle does say " Contains vitamin E derived from refined soybean oil " . I don't know what makes it OK to use...processing?? Guest guest
i was under the impression that alot of companies take out the natural vitamin e and then add the synthetic version vitamin e - i have no idea whyt - but nordic naturals do not - the vitamin E and A in their product is naturally occurring and that is why it is considered one of the better fish oils. i know greener pastures products are supposed to be great so maybe this is the case with those products also (i cant advise, i can only guess that this might be the case as i have not researched them yet). good luck, roweena x audrey 4 yrs. gut and behaviour issues. Guest guest
Sorry to re-hash this discussion, but I am not clear on the legality of vitamin E (as a soy byproduct). What is considered a naturally occuring vitamin E, and what is the synthetic version? Thank you! Guest guest
Hi " littleengine8 " , << Is there a way for me to read what Elaine wrote? I am not a member of lyris.>> In response to this question: " I just recently discovered that the vitamin E contained in the safflower oil and cod liver oil (Nordic Naturals) we use is derived from soy. I think I know the answer to this question but... does this mean we need to find another CLO? We tried the Kirkman's brand but it tastes awful -- almost impossible to get my 3 1/2 year old to take it. Thanks in advance for any input. " I think that Mimi is working on a way for everyone to read the Lyris files. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs mom of and > > >
