Guest guest
Hi Sperb: No one needs to tell you that your food choices aren't the greatest. If we were capable of making good food choices we wouldn't need surgery. After I had surgery I didn't feel the greatest so I ate very small amounts. Very small. But I did not always make the best choices either. I noticed that some of my friends and littermates were capable of eating way more than I was quantity-wise. They've still lost lots of weight. The problem with the poor choices is that given the limited " space " , nutrition suffers. But again, you don't need anyone to tell you that. It doesn't sound to me like you're eating all that much quantity wise. I've been around long time and there seems to be two kinds of people. The kind who can eat a lot in the beginning and then the appetite starts slowing down or those who can only pick in the beginning then get an increased appetite. I could hardly eat in the beginning and my appetite increased as time went on. Drema, my daughter, could eat way more than I could in the beginning and her appetite has decreased. I can eat a lot of chili. Probably 6 - 8 oz. and I can eat it in less than an hour. You had 6 oz. of soup which you sipped over the course of an hour. That sounds about the same as Drema and some of my other friends. But I can only eat about 1/2 of a baked potatoe. It just depends on what it is and what time of day, etc. I have never dumped as such but have had two experiences which tell me that certain things are not going to stay in my menu plan for life. Chocolate chip cookies are apparently a no-no. And chocolate pudding, even made with skim milk is something I won't be having again. I could have it in the beginning and it was very soothing to me..but apparenlty my body has changed its mind. Hang in there. Don't get discouraged because you don't have a temperamental tummy. And if you begin not losing any weight for a long period, then panic. Do try to consider that nutrition will suffer if you don't eat healthy. I try to remember that...and I do try to eat some veggies...but I now have enough capacity where I can combine that with some treats and that keeps me going. Just hang in there Sperb. It's possible that you can eat a good bit quantity-wise and will still lose weight. Exactly how much have you lost in how long a period? Here's a hug across the miles. Guest guest
Flo, As always you are a source of wisdom and comfort. Thanks. I think I weighed about 236 on my scale when I left for Durham (surgery on 11/9); this morning I weighed 226. I have lost about 2 pounds since around 11/15. But none of this is exact. As far as the food choices thing: thanks for the support. I know I could do better, too. But maybe what you said is true: that my appetite will decrease over the weeks. I just feel disappointed and have to get on with things instead of wallowing. I think it's funny that you can eat chili--something I've always thought would be hard to digest--but the pudding (a fairly innocuous item, especially low fat) your tummy now doesn't like. Tummy, tummy so contrary, which items will you throw? Pudding, not chili--who knows what else? In another day you'll know! *G* I guess I'll keep my day job.
