Guest guest
My son has autism and I have ulcerative colitis. I have been on the scd diet for about 4 years. I have read recently about parents who have put their kids on the scd diet. My son will hardly eat anything anymore all he wants are sweets and crackers with peanut butter, eating is very stressful. I know first hand how hard it is for me ,with everyone eating so many things I know it will be harder for a child. I would like to start him on this diet but since he eats so few foods and has so many melt downs it is hard to imagine trying to get him to eat the scd compliant foods. It may seem like I would know how to do this since I have been living this diet myself but it seems like a very difficult journey. I would like some suggestions and ideas to use for my son Thanks so much
Guest guest
Hello and welcome! My 2sons ahd daughter have been on this diet for one year now. We started off slowly. Looking back the sooner I had only vegies, fuit and protein as the only thing in the house the better it worked. If everything you have in the house is safe it makes things much easier. Maybe have a look at the SC diet and see what he does like that is SCD. I just know now that it has changed my kids so very much being on this diet! I tend to put a meat in the oven then 1/2 before I serve I add the vegies. It makes things much easier doing it this way. If it is pork chops or another meat I can use the stove to cook it too. Then I add the vegies and simmer for another 15 min. I cook up carrots and keep them as snacks. I cook fruits too and keep them as snacks too. I always have lots of bananas and eggs at home too. I bought almond flour and have a friend make me a few cakes too. I also make pancakes with almond flour too. BUT that was only after about 6 months on the diet. My kids don't eat any milk so I use acidophilus pills instead of yoguart. Good luck with the diet and congrats for taking such a wonderful step into this diet! Cheers! Guest guest
Hi , Many of the kids come to the diet eating like your son. Some gradually transition their kids to SCD, others go cold turkey. If you want to swap legal crackers and sweets for what he is eating now you can find legal recipes at http://www.pecanbread.com/new/recipes1.html (pb is not recommended early in the diet) It is optimal if you can do the intro diet for at least a day or two (no more than 5 days) SOme have reported that after clearing out the illegals out of their children's diet they (much to their parents surprise) started eating veggies and fruits. These 2 links will help: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/pickly1.html http://www.pecanbread.com/new/begindiet1.html Sheila << My son has autism and I have ulcerative colitis.
