My daughter has been on SCD for 5 weeks with great results. She has been able to

stop

taking steroids and her bowel movements are normal. she only complains about

bloating and

her protruding tummy. I wonder if you have any advise to eliminate the problem

or if you

think that this " last " symptom will disappear with time.

I think she is eliminating " toxins " because a mild eczema around her lips has

appeared 3

weeks after starting the diet.

She is getting used to goat-youghurt (home made) and nut flour cookies and

bread, she is

not taking any probiotics yet.

She did the introductory diet for 4 days but she could not cope without raw

apples (she had 2

on day 3 of the diet). Her diarrhea and cramps stopped completely at day 4.

At the moment she is eating: apple or grape juice (home made with a juicer) nut

bread or

cookies with honey or peanut butter, all types of meat (veal, beef, lamb, fish,

chicken,

turkey), eggs, emmental cheese and parmesan cheese for cooking, carrots, egg

plants,

spinach, apples, strawberries, mushrooms, lettuce and cucumber (occasionally)

She is sleeping well at night (she never did before)

Thank you in advance

Are all of these fruits and vegetables pealed, seeded, and well cooked? This is

very important, and would explain her bloating and such. For example, you would

need to cook the strawberries, but then strain out the tiny seeds for her. It

would pretty much leave you with a strawberry juice or sauce that you could put

on nut pancakes. The other thing that I noticed is way too soon is

peanutbutter. Peanuts are actually in the legume family just as beans are, so

you need to remove that until she hits around the six month mark at least. Some

children can't tolerate it even then, but it is definitely too early for

peanutbutter right now. Are the homemade jices diluted by at least half? She

is eating a wide variety of foods which is good. Did you introduce all of these

foods one at a time over the course of a couple of days in between to be able to

discern a reaction to each one? I am so pleased for you at her great progress

in such a short time. I think that she will eliminate the last couple of issues

if you remove the peanutbutter, and make sure that all foods are pealed, seeded,

and well cooked. If that doesn't do it, I would space out giving her all of

these foods on the list to watch for signs that one is a problem in particular.

We have been SCD for 4 months and my sons bloating has only been

improved for 2 or 3 days out of the whole thing. I think that it

might have initially been due to his C. Diff and now that we think

that is taken care of, we are suspicious that he has now developed

yeast contributing to or causing the bloating. I am also going to

remove eggs, but I really don't think it's anything in his diet. I

know this isn't helpful to you at all, just sharing that our bloating

has not yet improved on SCD.

Thank you for your reply. The vegetables are all well cooked but the

strawberries aren't. I

am afraid we never noticed a difference and we did wait for 3 or 4 days beetwen

new

introductions. We have just been very happy about the results.

I had to be a bit " soft " at the beginning (and went to buy some peanut butter

at a very

distant market) because she refused the diet and wanted to go out for pizza and

ice

cream. I will discuss your suggestions with her

Thanks

I think it will help quite a bit to pull out the peanut butter, and either use

another fruit instead of the berries or cook and strain them. There are other

nut butter choices that might work better for her at this stage. You can use

almond butter. It is fairly commonly found. I've also seen hazelnut or

macadamia butters. You can buy almond butter that is blanched first to remove

the almond skins(harder to digest for some) from digestivewellness.com. I've

never purchased it, but others here like it.
