Guest guest
I am in the middle of a persistent flare-up. My doctor says he will no longer prescribe prednisone, because he is concerned about the consequences of long-term use. He says the next time I see him he will prescribe Imuran if the symptoms still persist. I do not want to take this harmful drug!! I've got to get well. My flare-up has existed since April...I just can't kick it! I am VERY faithful to this diet. I have gone back to the Intro diet twice in the last month. Currently I eat chicken, fish, pureed carrots, cheesecake from intro diet, and banana smoothies (bananas and homemade yogurt in a blender). I try to avoid anything that has any texture, because my gut is so raw. Last night I tried well cooked french cut green beans for supper - - I was up all night, and I'm bleeding again. Any suggestions would be helpful! UC March 2005 Asacol Freeda vitamins --------------------------------- Shape Yahoo! in your own image. Join our Network Research Panel today! Guest guest
, How long do you cook the carrots? Some folks believe that it should be cooked for 4 hours or more. Do you use very ripe bananas? Rochel Weiss recommends veal from young animals as a source of meat for people who are having problems. Have you tried goat yogurt? B12 shots? I hope that you feel better soon. Guest guest
Hello , I have UC too and since March 2007, I have gotten off all medication and SCD has finally worked. Before March, I had not had any success on the diet. I had problems until I stopped taking the Asacol/Rowasa Enema which I found out had many illegal ingredients in it. I discovered the solution when I saw a pattern that led me to believe the medication was the problem. Do you keep a SCD journal? Are you taking this medication as a pill or as an enema? Did you have success before the April flare-up? Do you see a pattern? Those are some ideas. I hope that helps a little. Good luck. -- Take care, Mel
Guest guest
Wow, the thought of going off my meds is a bit scary, but I might try it. I know one of the side effects of Asacol is diarrhea. Go figure! I don't use the enema, my medication is in the pill form. I make my own yogurt using goat milk and heavy whipping cream. I'm under 100 pounds so I'm trying to gain some weight. I only drink water, or homemade juice. I guess I do just have some stubborn bacteria that refuses to die off. It's so frustrating. Thanks for your input. Guest guest
, I am no expert on how to make the transition to being medication free or if that would be possible in your case, but if you have any questions about it or if I can answer anything, please email me off list. Good luck and I hope you get better soon. -- Take care, Mel
Guest guest
Maybe you need some cod liver oil - Vitamin A is very important to tissue healing. The kids on my Vitamin K list are using Green Pasture brand. www.greenpasture.org. Cod liver oil is legal. > Hello , > I have UC too and since March 2007, I have gotten off all medication and SCD > has finally worked. Before March, I had not had any success on the diet. Guest guest
, I'm very faithful as well to the Diet and keep up the good work! I've had my doctors ( been through so many) say the same thing and I've stuck to the cortizone on my own. I way 40Kilos (i'm quite petite) and I've had to star on massive dossage as much as 50mg for like 3 or 4 days and then started a weekly 5 mg drop. (It's considered not to exceed the mg of Cortizone than that of your own weight in kilos). I have basically had to go on the medication on my own a bout 3 times for lack of doctors in my area to support me. When bleeding I was on 30mg as a starting point dossage - I gave myself a week with the thought of increasing 10mg if I wasn't better, but I was and didn't have to up the dossage. Somtimes at 20mg I continued a few more days than the one week - depending on how things were. But generally was able to work my way down weekly. Of course you must make sure you are taking plenty of calcium when taking the cortizone. ALSO - depending on where you are actually bleeding from. Do you know where your ulcerations are? I had an isotope test done back when my worst flare and it was rather in a low area with practically easy access for Cortizon Enemas. These also helped a lot. But they won't if the injury is higher up. This is just my experience so I'm not making a formal recommendation. Bach Flowers Remedy also helps! The most imoportant help is what MIMI said: B12SHOTS!!!! It takes a while and they are very painful. But I've had it for 2 flares while fighting the doctors to consent to this form of therapy. It's just not in their regular procedure.... If you are bleeding for a prolonged time you shouldn't think twice about this. Personal Observation: I noticed that the yogurt was too accidic and harsh when my gust was so raw, so I took that away - my at the time diet doctor agreed (only one supported me through the harsh times). Of course this is long before anyone discovered or suggested the yogurt made from Goat milk. Fruit & food. I kept going back to the intro as well. I added on , and not changed foods. So I woudn't discountinue the jello made from grape juice ( I make my own) - remmember dilute 1/2 & 1/2 . Good calcium there and that helps a lot. The soup of course! But I went really, reall slow. First broth, then with a few spoonfulls of the carrots ( purree) then added on little by little the chicken. Simple White fish broiled with some salt - and after feeling a bit better added broiled turkey ( I get thighs ground at my butcher). With no flavoring but salt. Omelettes. Apple sauce ( after 4 day Intro over) and slowly mixed the apples with 1/4 and adding up to 1/2 gradually of pears. Once better continued but instead of mashing these just eate them boiled in quarters. While adding on foods when better I didn't discontinue these two (pears help me from getting constipated) and I slice them thinly, mix with an egg and dab with butter and cinnamon - bake. I've made this a base in my diet. Trying not to over do the raw fruit which is hard as we have so much of it and delicious here! Each leagal food was introduced by small spoonfulls every 2 or 3 days. These would be increased slowly and no new food unless really ready. Each time was as if I was new at it all. But keeping a journal helps too. You'll notice the improvement and feel better. Well, that's me. Good luck. Feel free to email me when ever you wish: fdivargas@... F UC 11yrs / SCD 10yrs (2 bad flares early yrs) Snead escribió: I am in the middle of a persistent flare-up.
