Guest guest
Phenergan, compazine and zofran are the ones that I am most familiar with. Phenergan knocks most people out. Compazine never did much for me and I always take zofran, and keep it in stock. It works great but is very expensive and my insurance copany will only allow me to have a certain amount in a given time. So I always ask the doc to write for the 8mg pill and I can pop it in half to make the 4mg and it helps tremendously. Of course I used to have to take th entire 8mg when I was at my sickest. It comes in various forms, pill, suppository and a melt away (which is probably has the fastest effect) and IV and I think a liquid but not 100% on that. Hope this helps and do hope you feel better soon. I hated the nausea and vomiting the most and still have problmes with nausea. Guest guest
Thank you it is zofran I was thinking of. Where I got the " f " is beyond me. I am really ill right now. How long do you all stay on liquids? It seems like everything makes me nauseated even water right now. I will start my hyperalimentation tonight to keep up with my nutrition. My amylase is 1800 and my lipase is 9380. The pain is incredible. Does anyone have trouble with sugar causing an attack? I don't eat any fat, but I did have chocolate and caffeine for a couple of days and then the pain came with nausea. I see the MD this afternoon about 4 p.m. Hope you all can give me some pointers. Thank you Prayers to all. Deb
Guest guest
Hi Deb, I sure do hope the doc can give you some meds to help out. If he does write for the zofran ask for the highest dosage you can get, 8mgs. Like I had said erlier, insurance co's will limit the amount you can have, so I ask for 8's and take that for sever nausea and vomiting and then pop them in half when it is a bit milder. When I was really sick I would take it about 45 mins for I eat to help keep the food down. I thik they cost like about $30 a pill, so it is very expensive. The melt aways are good if you have trouble keeping things down, but I am not sure what dosage they come in and they are a little more expensive. There wwere many many times that I would stop taking in food al toghter. Nothing at all, just to let my panc rest. Then I would graudally add sips of water or would get these little cups of italian ice and let it melt in my mouth for hydration. then I would add full liguids, mostly slimfast or chicken noodle soup. I literally would live off of just tht for months at a time. I drank a good bit of coffee and sodas when I was working and would often suck on peppermints to settle my stomach and get rid of that nasty taste in my mouth. I never had problmes with sugar or caffiene. I think that sometimes it was the only thing that kept me up right. Let us know how the doctors visit goes. Hope you feel better. Guest guest
Hi , Just got back from the doctor's. He repeated my lab and is waiting on it to determine if I need admitted. He said I looked pretty good so maybe not. Why is it that we have to be laying on the floor wreaking in pain before they believe you. He said well you are not laying on the table there doubled over. I guess I just don't know how to act when you have pancreatitis, I must take lessons in this. I just am a person that has a high pain threshhold. I'll let you know here in a little bit what the verdict is. Deb
