After my checkup from my tube placement Thursday the 9th I went

downhill fast! They moved the tube and made sure it was loose and

loosened it more saying if it was tight in there it could cause

ulcers inside. I thought I was just sore from them messing with it.

Friday It was draining thick green mucous real goopy and nasty and a

lot of it. I kept it clean and kept the drain sponges on it. By

Fri. afternoon I could hardly walk and still assumed it was from them

messing with it on Thurs. and I was maybe up too much. When I woke

on Sat. morning my entire abdomen was swollen and the hole where the

tube goes in was red and warm. My home health nurse came and told me

to go to the ER. There they did bloodwork and xrays and found

nothing more than some air. I was in terrible pain. I had taken

phengran and loratab before going and they gave me more loratab and

then an IV and some demerol and phengran through that. I still could

not stand for them to touch me. They took me by ambulance to the

hospital that placed the tube an hour and a half away. There more

bloodtests and a CT scan and all they could find was " free air " in my

abdomen. They did however get the pain under control with dilaudid

and told me to take the loratab at home every 6 hours for at least a

couple days. I am feeling a bit better today but still hurting.

Have any of you heard of anything like this? I am taking it easy but

man I just keep having all these strange things go wrong.

Thanks,

Hi ; I had the same sort of trouble after my peg tube was

placed. The thing hurt like the devil I mean it really hurt to bend

or more in any direction. The free air will eventually pass, walking

will help, but it will take time and unfortunetly that hurts as

well. As far as the green goo, well Ihad that too. it was

disgusting I hate dit. But after about 3 weeks it slowed down but I

still had to keep gauze around it or it would seep through to my

clothing.

Try to keep the area as clean and dry as you can. Even if that means

waking up in the middle of the night to change the dressings. A

heating pad can helpw ith the swelling and tenderness. Also try

sitting outside int he sun and expose the area a little to dry it out

some. You can slow down your feedings and that will help with the

drainiage a little. but unfortunetly that is the nature of that

beast. I had my peg for a little over 3 months and it was removed

when I had the Beger procedure. I hated every freaking second of it

but it did help me to get stronger and allowed my panc to rest. I

was also taiking dilaudid at that time. If the lortab is helping

that is great but you may want to ask for something a bit stronger,

if you want to anyway.

I hope you feel better soon but in all honesty tha tpeg I had hurt

for a good 3 weeks at least so give it some time. Try to walk more

to hlep stimulate your bowells to remove that gas. I'm sorry I cant

help more.

Warmly,
