Guest guest
Hello! My husband and I started SCD 5 weeks ago. He has had two food reactions from eating food that had ingredients we weren't aware of. Other than those two times (where the reactions lasted about 5 days), he has had significant improvement. His last reaction was this past Saturday after eating a smoothie laced with sugar (we didnt realize the strawberries bought fresh from a farm last summer and frozen had had sugar added to them). Normally his reactions just mean inability to focus/concentrate, confusion, irritation. NAUSEA: The past few days he has had nausea about 10-20 minutes after eating. We began taking a stomach acid pill two weeks ago... just switched to betaine hcl about 2 days ago. We thought that might be the cause, but I wonder if increased stomach acid causes nausea... or if it is just his gut healing and the bacteria starving off again. We have also started taking GI Pro Health's B vitamins and Laboratories Enzymes. Will start the yogurt soon! SHARP PAINS IN SMALL INTESTINES: Another thing. This morning he woke up with sharp pain below his belly button. I believe this is his small intestines. Do any of you ever experience sharp pains there? It wasnt gas or bloating. His belly is rarely bloated. He never has diarrhea. He is never constipated. Except for the reactions and severe thinness and acne, you would never suspect that he isnt entirely well. Thanks! - in Norway 5 weeks
Guest guest
Increased stomach acid can cause nausia. I am expecting my fourth child, and I have had a lot of nausia with this child. Two weeks ago, I had a check up with my doctor. I told him that my nausia is still very strong even though I am half way through the pregnancy. He asked if I was having a lot of heart burn because increased stomach acid can cause nausia in some people. I'm not having that problem, so I know that's not the cause for my continued nausia. It obviously was a helpful fact to learn though because now I can pass on the information to you. Meleah Nausea after mealtime and sharp pains? Hello! My husband and I started SCD 5 weeks ago. Guest guest
Hi , I am glad to hear that your husband is improving. There is a possibility that this is a die off reaction. The gut bugs that thrived from the sugar in the strawberries are dying. Give activated charcoal, if that helps then you know it is die off. I would also remove all the new supplements and meds for a while then retry them one at a time. What is your husband eating? Are the veggies and fruit cooked, peeled and seeded? Any manufactured foods? Supplements? Guest guest
Thanks for the help! We will try removing the supplements for a few days. We both started the diet a little over five weeks ago. I however began at phase 4-5. I realized my digestion is much worse than his (chronic constipation) even though he is the one with the brain connection. (He has perfect digestion in appearance, though. Foods never upset his GI tract in the normal way (gas, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, pain, etc). So, I started the intro diet a week ago and am at stage 1-2. Since I cook for us both, he has ended up eating basically the intro diet except with maybe 2-3 raw pears, two side salads and a handful of pistachios (yesterday) during the course of this week. I am almost finished with BTVC and it seems that a main indicator in when people are ready to proceed to further stages of the diet is when their diarrhea has stopped and bowel movements are good. Because he almost always has had perfect bowel movements, I think we can proceed with caution to all the next stages for him in the next few days. (since he has been on SCD his bowel movements have been regular and fine as always. it is strange that my digestive issues are quite bad yet he is the one who has the brain reactions! For me, i have to keep cooking my fruit and veggies because i am still very constipated with intermittent diarrhea. Making some yogurt today, so hope that will help us! Supplements: GI pro-health B vitamins (my husband does well with b12) Labs Copper and Potassium (his doctor found he is REALLY deficient in those) Labs Enzyme (i checked ingredients of douglas labs and they are SCD legal). He has stopped the betaine hcl now. (though i still take it before each meal because my body isnt making enough stomach acids) I take GI ProHealth Enzymes thanks again! - > > > Hi , > > I am glad to hear that your husband is improving.
