Guest guest
Welcome pushpa, I too am new to the site due to the fact I too was told I have Chronic pancreatitis, so I searched a support group out and found this one. My name is , age 45 from the USA, New York. I do not live in the city of new yok itself, but in the outskirts in the country side. in the suburbs to be exact. It's exciting to be able to correspond with people here from all over the world, yet we have the same affliction. it can aflict anyone even canine. It's good that I get the opportunity to hear how each person is afflicted and what they are doing to solve it. I'm not familiar with the test you are asking about. I see someone has answered your question on this and it's a very extensive and thoroughl explanation of the test. What does oily stool's look like? does it look like mucus in it? how can you see the oil? Is there a color to it? does everyone have oil in the stool with cp? I too would sufffer after eating certain food approx one hour after eating. Not all the time though. It would happen on and off. that's why I was shocked when my dr. told me I have chronic pancreatitis. not everyone gets the intense pain on a daily basis. I did the stool test to test for fat in it and it came out positive. that's how my dr. determined I have cp. but I remember just reading someones post here recently saying that she tested positive for fat on one test and tested her the second time and there was no fat. that made me worry about whether my dr. is really making the correct diagnosis. I just recieved my cat scan results last night on the phone with my dr. he originally ordered an MRI/MRCP but my insurance company refused to cover it and told him to do a cat scan first with oral contrast. the test didn't show anything the dr said and is hoping that the insurance co. will now allow him to order the MRI/MRCP. I've heard from this group that this is a good test rather than the ct. ct's don't show the damage of the pancreas all the time. so were fighting now to get approval for the Mri. I'll know more on monday. my dr. also wants me to see a specialtist he highly regards and trusts. He is chief of gastro at a medical college near by. my dr. said he wants to use his exceptional thoughts and expertise on this matter. he deals alot with pancreatitis and it's his expertise. I guess I'll be fortunate to meet him. My dr. said the chief will do the ERCP himself. my dr. doesn't perform them. Only one of his associates in his office is capable of performing it. I don't understand why all gastro dr.s aren't trained in this process. He was kind enough to also say to me after telling me he's going to refer me that he's not trying to push me off to another dr and that's the furthest thing on his mind and that he wants to continue treating me. he's worrid about me and won't give up till he gets an answer. we are pushing on he told me last night. I admire my dr. immensly. I didn't even say anything to him for him to tell me he's worried I might think he's pushing me off. this would bother him if I thought that. Have you ever had an ercp yet? I'm afraid to get this test done because I heard that you have to be awake to swallow the tube? Is this true? I was put out for my upper gastroscopie when he looked into the stomach. I also heard it can set an attack off for some people. not all. but that you're in the hospital for them to give you pain meds for it and anti nauseu meds if it should happen. I will end this lengthy letter to you and hope I did not bore you with the contents. It is a pleasure to have you in the group Pushpa. Sincerely, S. ____________________________________________________ Yahoo! Sports Rekindle the Rivalries. Guest guest
Hi , I have had several ERCP's done and it never triggered an attack. That's not to say it hasn't happened to others. I was totally asleep and out for the whole preceedure each time and don't remember the tube getting put in my mouth. I had been admitted to the hospital because of panc attack and then afterward had the ERCP's. The Dr told me he was checking the opening to my intestine from the pancreas. Each time it was fine and didn't need a stent. I wouldn't worry about the prcedure because its fairly common. All I remember is having a sore throat afterwards. Hope we are all pain free...Jim in Vermont
