Guest guest
I know this is a gross subject but I have a question. Ever since I have been off my pain medicine I have had real loose bowel movements. It is yellow like stomach bile. When I eat anything I have diarrhea within hours and the food is not digested. I am not sure of the reason of this so any info would be helpful. Patty
Guest guest
Hi Patty, While it may not be much, at first I suggest trying to intake a diet of high fiber and also keep very well hydrated. Whole wheat doesn't make it, the label should say 100% whole wheat. That odd breakfast cereal at the very end of the row at the grocery store, yeah the one you have never heard of before, pick that one. Look at all food lables for the MDR of twigs and bits provided. If you have potatoes be sure to eat the skin. In fact just throw your vegatable peeler away. Also the rawer the better, for a snack just have raw broccolli or culiflower. Seeds and nuts are good but watch out for too much oil, dry roasted are best. Remember it takes time for the GI tract to change and recover, weeks or even months. Guest guest
Hi Patty, This is just a guess but I am thinking that maybe you are experiencing re-adjustment of your bowels to not being slowed down by the pain meds. Narcotics tend to slow down the motility of the GI tract - and maybe your GI tract was compensating for this to some extent. Now that the meds are not in your system, the bowels may be hyperactive until it learns it doesn't need to compensate. The yellowish color could be because the stuff is moving through your system so fast that the bile doesn't have time to be re-absorbed. In a " normal " bowel, the bile absorbed back into the system as it moves through the intestine. Just my thoughts.......could be way off the mark though. Guest guest
Hi Patty. I dont remember if you had said or not that you were on any enzymes. Laurie is absolutely correct in saying that the narcs will slow down you bowells and for somebody with pancreactic insufficiency will give them normal, per se, looking BM's. Now that you are no longer taking the narcs your bM's may be taking on the appearance and consistency of those with panc insuffciency. The nerve block has treated your pain beutifully but it did not cure your pancreatic condition. If you are not taking enzymes, I would think a discussion with your doc about them might be a good idea. If you are passing undigested foods then you are not absorbing them and the last thing you need are the complications of malabsorbtion and malnutrition, trust me it aint fun. Warmly,
Guest guest
, I'm jumping in on a post you wrote to Patty. I was wondering if you could answer some of my questions. I still don't know what the apperance is supposed to look like if you have pancreatic insufficiency? My dr asked me if mine are getting any better since I've been taking the enzymes. but I'm embarrased about how much detail to go into. I've never noticed any type of oil floating in the camode, but alot of mucas from time to time. and mine are not floating as I've read that some would. I have bulkiness. this has been going on for about 3 yrs. now. I just assumed it was caused by a medication I've been taken for a few years now. there are a few hints as to what CP stools look like, but mine don't look like that. do you think my dr. could be wrong that I have chronic pancreatitis? he diagnosed it from a stool test that was performed to see if there was fat in it. he said I had maladsorption and that's why I've lost so much weight. I don't see food particles in my stool if I'm not digesting my food. is that something that always appears with maladsorption? I was ashamed to ask my dr. all these personal questions about my bowel movements. I'm trying to get my questions aswered in the most modest way. It's not an easy task on such a topic. thank you for your assistance, S. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pancreatitis/
