Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I'm not sure if I can be helpful but i'll try. Burn-out, as Laurie said, refers to the point at which the pancreas is not working, not even " trying " to produce digestive enzymes, for example. I have been told I have very advanced CP, almost at burn-out point. (I am not yet diabetic, although heading that way.) I am 59 and have had CP for decades (first attack at the age of 5), which might bear out some of what Laurie said. It is certainly true that I have less pain now than I used to and don't get the crippling pain I once had. However, I am also following a very low-fat and alcohol-free diet and taking Creon (digestive enzymes) as well. It is difficult for me to be sure what has caused the improvement in immediate symptoms. Other people can progress to burn-out in less time but the process is unpredictable. I have just come back to the board after a little absence so I am out of touch. I wonder if Heidi answered this question? She has complete burn-out, I believe, and it did not take long for this point to be reached. However, I think warnings about being simplistic or over-optimistic about burn-out are very sensible. It is wise to be wary. Laurie has said everything really important about the TP/ICT. I was going to have a TP last year but my symptoms improved on the new regime so the surgery was left. This is a really difficult decision to have to make. However, it's not a tragedy if the ERBT hasn't worked. Yours, Fliss
