All,

I have a Hickman and have been on TPN for approximately 10 months,

with another 2-3 months to go. Has anyone else been on TPN for this

long?

It is getting very old and my tolerance for lack of food is wearing

thin.

Any encouragement or experience with being NPO for this long would be

appreciated.

Pat,

I too was on TPN for a long time. I was NPO for over a year. You can

do it. It is a good sign if you are starting to want to eat. I know

that I was so sick that I didn't want to eat. When I started feeling

better after over a year and my TP/ICT food and drink is all I could

think about.

Hello, I wish I could have talked to your a few months ago. I have had a

line in for TPN for about 16 months. The docs say it will be for the

rest of my life. When I have bouts of CP. I was only on clear liquids

for about two months. Never full NPO. I still only eat pureed food or

have terrible pain. I really should not eat most of the time and do the

TPN but I chose to eat once in a while. My enzymes have been high for a

year. Two weeks ago Lipase 9800 and 1800 for amylase. They are 2468 and

356 now. It is difficult being on it this long. I just pray for the

days without pain and bloating. Let me know how you are doing. Keep in

touch. It helps when you find someone with the same issues. Deb
