Guest guest
Hi, My name is Goran and Im from Macedonia, ex-Yugoslav republic of Macedonia. Im a father of 4 year old son with autism. My son, as a baby was a normal one and we notice the changes on age of 18-22 months. Macedonia is so far away from the world that you can no immagine, two million people, 10% reach people and when I discover the meaning of autism I couldnt talk with anyone here. I only have the Internet and you , people from all arround the world to help me and my son to recover from this monster. You can not immagine how I suffer to find the way how to start help him, here no info comes, you can not heard about autism anywhere, Dr are poor informed, no support groups, nothing, therapist never heard abouth ABA and poor of autism, far, far away from real world. In the begining this was like a long live preason for my son without any guilt!!!! I was wondering where to start from, but Im good in English, good in PC, seat and type the work AUTISM in Internet and minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day here Im. Im on Internet for 6 months non stop, reading, and reading, every day new for me, looking for a help for my son, I realise that there is no MAGIC CURE but I still read and read, Im very depresed when I realise my self that Im from Macedonia, far way from everything, but I must go further in this dark tunel, no light beside, nor in front, but I push. I read a lot, I register my self in every autistic organisation worldwide, I receive news, I register my self in many Yahoo groups, NCD, chelationkids etc, every day new topic. I was very confused, this were new happenings to me, new words, new world, so confused, dont know where to start from, I become crasy a bit. But, day after day, reading and reading I consider that the first I need to start to help my angel is to star this diet, SCD diet. There are so many things that I dont understand, but I have you to explain me I hope. To purchase all sulements and biomed take time and money, but firs SCD, so dear friends, I read the site pacenbread and Legal/Illegal foods and I need to read again and again, but I need to ask you few questions: 1. I read everywhere: The Specific Carbohydrate Diet™ is a dietary treatment for Inflammatory Bowel Disease; Children have a diarhea, constipation; Children have a problem with gut etc. My son is not verbal and we dont know did he have a gut problem, but we know that he dont have a diarhea or constipation. How do I will know did my son have a gut problem? Did the conditions are to have diarhea or constipation to start SCD? How I will know that we need to do SCD? 2 I undrestand that diet is low of free of sugar. OK, but sugar is not alowed, honey is feeding the Yeast, Stevia is Illegal in SCD, so what to do. My son drink a lot of tea, lemonade home made from lemon and we need to put sweat in, but what? What you put in your children tea? 3 Regarding bread. Here in Macedonia you can not buy a Almond flour, Im not shure, I know that in my capitol I can by glutein free flor. Can I make a bread from glutein free flour, is it OK for my son and for diet??? Thanks for your time, read my letter, and wait for your reply, Best regards Goran --------------------------------- Be a better Heartthrob. Get better relationship answers from someone who knows. Guest guest
Hiii, Good bless you, thanks for your response. I prepare this letter immidiately but Internet problems, Please read below: Sheila Trenholm wrote: Welcome to the list Goran, < Im a father of 4 year old son with autism..... 1. How I will know that we need to do SCD?>>>> Children who have no obvious gut problem have been helped with the diet. -Im so glad to hear that, becoase my angel dont have any gut problem, as I can feel, you know its very hard to " gues " all the time, he is no verbal so I gues. You can try the introductory diet for 2-3 days and see if there are any changes. The intro diet: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/the_intro_diet2.htm (original version) http://pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#intro (theis is the version you can do if you want to be dairy free) After the intro diet you gradually add in peeled and cooked fruits and veggies and other foods that are on the diet. -In last few days I copy/paste all pages from pecanbread and print and read and read again and again, I read and print the intro diet, recepies and whole web. You know, here I cant buy some products, there are many words I dont understand, but I will try. Do I need to do a intro diet first as it is? Do I need to go under the recepies lines? Can I use the recepies from peacenbread site? << 2 I undrestand that diet is low of free of sugar. OK, but sugar is not alowed, honey is feeding the Yeast, Stevia is Illegal in SCD, so what to do. My son drink a lot of tea, lemonade home made from lemon and we need to put sweat in, but what? What you put in your children tea? >> Does your son have a yeast problem? If he does not he may be able to tolerate some legal honey. Legal honey is the kinds that are 100% pure and clear (filtered to remove pollen). -I realy dont 100% understand the meaning of word Yeast, but I think that he have a Yeast problem. If it means that after antibiotic when he is ill, he gets something white on his genitals, Drs says that it is Candida, and give us Nystatin, as a baby he use to have white in his mouth and Drs say Candida and give us Nystatin. We didnt make test, should we and what kind of test is for Yeast please? Every time he become ill and take antibiotics syrups he become very nervous, shake his hands, muuuu too much, go up-down etc, after a while he become better. For example, 1.5 month ago he was very ill, spend 17 days in hospital, receive meny antibiotic, he get pleuropneumony, and his behaviour change very much. These days I stop sugar and give him honey, what a mistake, he become more nervous and more bad behaviour, I was wondering why all this, becose someone told me that I can use honey, but with Candida? So I want to buy Stevia, but in SCD is Illegal food, I dint kinow what to do. For example, what you give to your children when they drink tea? Another legal sweetener is saccharine. - Why I read that every sweetener is Illegal-they have aspartame and this is not good for our children? The company Hermesetas makes legal sodium saccharine tablets. There isn't a distributor listed in Macedonia but there is in Greece and Turkey. If you can import from these countries let me know and I'll let you know which product is SCD legal. -Shure, Greece is 100 km, from here, people goes every day shoping in Greece, and Turkey is OK, every week people from my town shop from there!!! As I can see the pictures of Hermesetas its familiar to me, maybe. But, I read that sweeteners are not gut, I think in Treating autism site: · Reduce the amount of sugar in the diet - it feeds bad bacteria which in turn cause negative behaviours such as aggression, hyperactivity, poor sleep patterns, soiling and smearing · Remove Aspartame (NutraSweet - neurotoxin) which is a common cause of hyperactivity, aggressive and impulsive behaviour Some people who don't tolerate honey sweeten foods with fruit. -After the illnessess, my son take a cure Pronizon and this make his apetite very strong and he gat fat, and he eat a lot now, he start to eat everything, no problems with food, he start to eat eggs, tomato, cucumbers, bean, etc, and no problems about apetite. The new is that he start to eat Orange too, he never eat before, maybe some fruit is not alowed. In peacenbread there is no info for fruits. Stevia is not recommended, but it is not illegal. Here is a good post on it http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/67270 << 3 Regarding bread. Or maybe they need to be roasted first. Regular Gluten free flour is not SCD legal. -Only think I can buy here is glten free flour. Thanks aggain for your reply and please be in toch. Guest guest
No sugar is allowed on SCD diet. Many or most use honey - but if you are seeing a negative (bad) reaction do not use it. We don't use much sweetener at all - mostly just pure foods. After doing without sweetener a while you get used to it and will like your dinks that way - maybe not lemonade - that may be too tart. We just drink water no juices at all as our son does not like juice - never has and he is 13 years old. Water with a twist of fruit tastes good to us (mom & dad) Yeast is the same as candidia. And it sounds like your son has it which may be why he reacts to the honey. W. Re: Re: NEW HERE - PLS HELP Thanks Carol, Im trying to do my best, wish it could be so easy. Guest guest
> > > Dear Goran I don't know where to start as there has been so much improvement in all areas. Last year Js teacher said he may as well not go to school as he wasn't learning and was unaware of anything that was going on around him, he took no notice of the other kids and spent playtime walking up and down the edge of the playground on his toes and wiggling his fingers in front of his eyes. He couldn't understand what was said to him if there was a slight background noise and he only understood very simple words. He would cover his ears at some sounds and really seemed to be in pain when the classroom got noisy. He has always been verbal but didn't talk very much and some people couldn't understand him as his speech was poor and he couldn't find the words he wanted to use, he would also reverse words ie instead of saying " monsters are only on tv " he said " only monsters are on tv " . He was very behind at school and I worried that he'd never read or write, he couldn't do simple maths like 2+1. Now he's a different boy! He pays attention in class and puts up his hand to ask and answer questions. He can join in group conversations and understands most of what is said to him, his speech and language has improved so that his sentences are long and structured correctly. His sensory problems have almost gone, no covering ears and no wiggling fingers, he only very occasionly goes up on his toes. He's still slightly behind in maths but is reading and writing at age level. He has 2 best friends and plays with them every playtime and I mean proper pretend play. He rushes in to school now as he can't wait to see his friends and he gets invited to their house after school. He's become a wonderfully caring, loving little boy, and he loves to play silly tricks on us. He now looks healthier than ever. We still have a way to go as he's quite clumsy, immature and can talk endlessly about spiderman but I'm confident we'll get there. He's finally with us and he says he doesn't feel muddled and puddled (his own description) anymore. > He's an absolute joy to be with, we can finally laugh together and boy do we laugh! > This diet is healing him take care > --------------------------------- > Take the Internet to Go: Yahoo!Go puts the Internet in your pocket: mail, news, photos & more. > >
Guest guest
As I can see the pictures of Hermesetas its familiar to me, maybe. But, I read that sweeteners are not gut, I think in Treating autism site: · Reduce the amount of sugar in the diet - it feeds bad bacteria which in turn cause negative behaviours such as aggression, hyperactivity, poor sleep patterns, soiling and smearing · Remove Aspartame (NutraSweet - neurotoxin) which is a common cause of hyperactivity, aggressive and impulsive behaviour Goran, When the Treating Autism site says to reduce sugar and remove Aspartame, we agree. But it does not say to remove saccharine (Hermesetas). You should try the saccharine (Hermesetas) for a while. Then later, after your son's gut heals a little you can try just a little bit of honey and watch to see if there are any bad reactions. Here is something to try in your apricot juice...If you have a blender, you could mix your apricot juice with a very ripe banana. The banana would make it sweeter. Also, could you make some pear juice and mix it with the apricot? Pears are very sweet. Goran, do you know that for the SCDiet all juices need to be mixed 50% with water? This is so that there is not a big dose of fruit sugar entering the gut all at once. Please remember to do this. You also wanted to know about fruit. You will see a list of legal fruits if you scroll down the page of the following link: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html Most fruits are legal, but at first you need to peel them, remove the seeds, and cook them. This makes them easier to digest. If you want to know about a fruit that you do not see on the pecanbread list, please post a question for us and we will tell you. Please let us know how else we can help, , mom to
Guest guest
Hi Goran, <<In last few days I copy/paste all pages from pecanbread and print and read and read again and again, I read and print the intro diet, recepies and whole web.You know, here I cant buy some products, there are many words I dont understand, but I will try.>> You may not need many of the products listed on the website. If you want to use yogurt you will need a yogurt starter. If you have a good SCD yogurt available to you locally you can use that to make 24 hour SCD yogurt. If not you will need a yogurt starter to make yogurt. <<Do I need to do a intro diet first as it is?>> You have the option of either doing the 1. intro diet that includes dairy, 2. the intro without dairy or 3. skip the intro diet and just use any SCD legal foods. We have found that most people get better results if they do the intro for even just a day or two. <<Do I need to go under the recepies lines?>> Sorry, I am not sure what you mean. <<Can I use the recepies from peacenbread site?>> Yes. <<-I realy dont 100% understand the meaning of word Yeast, but I think that he have a Yeast problem. For example, what you give to your children when they drink tea?>> Candida is another name for Yeast overgrowth. Candida (albicans) is one of the most common yeast that cause problems. The SCD can help with yeast (candida). For more information please read http://www.pecanbread.com/new/yeast.html <<Another legal sweetener is saccharine. << - Why I read that every sweetener is Illegal-they have aspartame and this is not good for our children?>> Pure sodium saccharine is legal. It does not have asparatame. <<The company Hermesetas makes legal sodium saccharine tablets. There isn't a distributor listed in Macedonia but there is in Greece and Turkey . If you can import from these countries let me know and I'll let you know which product is SCD legal. -Shure, Greece is 100 km, from here, people goes every day shoping in Greece , and Turkey is OK, every week people from my town shop from there!!! As I can see the pictures of Hermesetas its familiar to me, maybe. But, I read that sweeteners are not gut, I think in Treating autism site: >> For Turkey: Hermesetas tablets (Blue container with white lid) Local distributor Sifar Ilac Sanayi A.S. Dr. Faruk Ayanoglu caddesi Yeni Defne apt. No: 26 D:1 81030 Fenerbahçe / Istanbul Phone: 0216 449 49 40 - 41 Fax: 0216 330 99 63 or 02 Mail: sifar@... From Greece: Hermesetas Granulated only (Hermesetas Gold is not for SCD) Ingredients are Sodium saccharine and cyclamate blend (SCD legal) Local distributor Farmanic-Chemipharma S.A. 137 Filis Avenue 13451 Kamatero Phone: (+3) 010 23 11 031 Fax: (+3) 010 23 15 889 Mail: info@... <<<· Reduce the amount of sugar in the diet - it feeds bad bacteria which in turn cause negative behaviours such as aggression, hyperactivity, poor sleep patterns, soiling and smearing · Remove Aspartame (NutraSweet - neurotoxin) which is a common cause of hyperactivity, aggressive and impulsive behaviour>> Sugar (sucrose) is not SCD legal. Aspartame is not recommended for SCDers, especially ASD children. <<Some people who don't tolerate honey sweeten foods with fruit. >> Oranges are SCD legal, some beans are legal, others are not. These links may help explain until you get your book: http://www.scdiet.org/1about/scdwhatis.html http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#beyond http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#menu << 3 Regarding bread. Here in Macedonia you can not buy a Almond flour, Im not shure, I know that in my capitol I can by glutein free flor. Can I make a bread from glutein free flour, is it OK for my son and for diet???> If you have a coffee grinder, food processor or blender and you are able to buy whole nuts you can make your own nut flour by grinding the nuts into flour. -I have blender and all other, please tell me did I need to buy dry almonds and grind them, becoase we have amonds trees arond and in town, so should I wait to dry or grind them. Or maybe they need to be roasted first.>> Remove the shells from ripe almonds. At the beginning of the diet the tough brown skins should be removed (blanch the almonds) before grinding them into a flour. Roasted or unroasted almonds are both okay to use. <<Regular Gluten free flour is not SCD legal. -Only think I can buy here is glten free flour. Thanks aggain for your reply and please be in toch.>> The gluten free flour is not for SCD.
