Guest guest
Hi all, I have recently read a lot of you talking about hereditary pancreatitis. I do have the website that someone posted, but I would really appreciate information from those of you who have actually been tested for it. Is it a blood test? I was officially diagnosed with SOD and CP 5 years ago, but I remember as far back as age 5 having " stomach problems. " I had my first upper GI when I was 7 and was told that I had " IBS and a nervous stomach. " My dad's dad died at the age of 51 from pancreatic cancer. He was a heavy drinker, but we still don't know if he had CP as an underlying condition. Also, my dad's mom always had " stomach problems. " She wouldn't even go out of her house because of pain and diarrhea all the time. She too, in her day, was a drinker, but again, did she have underlying CP? I really would like to find out if my CP is hereditary as I have two boys (ages 6 and 8) and my 8-year-old mimics a lot of my " stomach problems " that I had at his age. I would really appreciate any information on this. Also, I had a liver biopsy for work up to have a TP/ICT and was found to have over an 80% fatty liver. Therefore, I cannot have the TP/ICT. Does anyone know if this condition gets better on its own and/or how serious it is? Thanks to all! Thoughts and prayers to all! T. Guest guest
, sorry not to have answered sooner, I don't read the posts every day. I have been tested for the heredity pancreatitis. What it is is a very simple blood test. They draw one or two vials of blood from your arm and that's it. It was discovered that while mine is not the usual form of heredity I do have a genetic abnormality that is most likely the cause of my pancreatitis. They told me it really wouldn't help to have my children tested as there is no prevention besides eating healthy low fat foods. We decided against testing them because all it would accomplish is making them nervous if it shows they have the abnormality. The abnormality does not guarantee they will get pancreatitis just makes them more susceptible. The reason I had the testing done was to determine the cause of my pancreatitis. They were coming up with no explaination at all and after 3 " idiopathic " attacks and now chronic pancreatitis I wanted answers as to why. I hope this helps answer at least one of your questions. If you want to know any more about the genetic testing you can e-mail me direct at pobox305@... I tend to check my e- mail more often than the posts. Theresa > T.
