Guest guest
Can anyone reccomend a good doctor in southern ontario for kids who are becoming allergic to everything. We have had lots of IgE allergy testing in the past but, it has only picked up milk, egg, peanuts allergies. I'm afraid my daughter is going to have nothing left to eat soon. She can only eat very limited fruits and veggies, now. and meats(no fish)...a taste of most other foods gives her immediate sore mouth(moderate...to severe), itchy lips,throat...etc. that worsens up to a few hours ..then goes away.same thing with eggs,nuts,yogurt...any new food(she's never ate) I try with her she reacts to. She is reacting to foods she was ok with in the past now, or foods she was reacting to as a baby..Just reacted to a pear... My son can eat eggs, yogurt and a couple more things maybe...but he is reacting to a lot of the same foods.(not as severe for some foods) Has anyone dealt with this? Are Dan doctors the only ones to deal with these type of allergies?(IgG). I do have a list of Dan doctors from Canada. Does anyone know if they do IgG mediated food allergy testing in Toronto at sick kids? I appreciate if anyone had advice or info. they could share with me. Guest guest
You could try Dr. Zoltan Rona. I've just started seeing him (as well as using the scd), but have known of his reputation for years. He's pricy though. Info and articles about him at this website: http://www.mydoctor.ca/user/ASP/healthInfo.asp?id=2509&subSectionId=1 Could you in turn recommend legal yogurt starters available in Ontario. Guest guest
Hi Cathy, <<Can anyone reccomend a good doctor in southern ontario for kids who > are becoming allergic to everything>> There is a list of SCD doctors for Ontario at http://www.scdiet.org/8resources/doctors.html The link gives a description of the doctor, what they do etc. Even if they do not do allergy work specifically their offices may be able to recommend a like-minded physician who does. << ... only eat very limited fruits and veggies, now. and meats(no fish)...a taste of most other foods gives her immediate sore mouth (moderate...to severe), itchy lips,throat...etc. that worsens up to a few hours ..then goes away.same thing with eggs,nuts,yogurt...any new food(she's never ate) I try with her she reacts to. > She is reacting to foods she was ok with in the past now, or foods > she was reacting to as a baby..Just reacted to a pear... > My son can eat eggs, yogurt and a couple more things maybe...but he > is reacting to a lot of the same foods.(not as severe for some foods)Has anyone dealt with this?>> I have developed a couple of allergies in the last few years. I broke in Hives with 'Advair' and recently had the itchy throat lips etc.. with a specific cheese. I am okay with most other cheeses but any cheddars that have a bit of rind/crust I get a reaction to. Probably some kind of mold but I now carry Benadryl in my purse just in case. I am guessing that my allergy may be related to the mold in my house. Which I hope to deal with in the next couple of weeks. I don't know if it helps or not but I take/eat supplements/foods that reduce inflammation in the body. CLO with DHA and EPA, wild salmon with skin, grass fed (antibiotic free, hormone free) meats, green tea some herbs and spices. Regular grain fed meats can promote an inflammatory response in the body. Is it possible that there is something besides foods triggering their allergic response - especially since they are reacting to foods they were okay with and there doesn't seem to be a pattern - a dish detergent, cleaner etc...? I hope to meet with an allergist in the Fall - it will be interesting to see her take on what causes allergies. Guest guest
Thanks Sheila, for your thoughts and suggestions on this . I think these kids of mine are having some sort of pseudoallergic response to almost everything. It is definitely the food...not detergant of plates etc...as a banana right from the peel(a very ripe one) is a problem now...chicken is a problem now(she is eating turkey now). I believe now that one reason why these kids are feeling better on scd is that all grain was a problem too. I gave my daughter two bits of rice...after months strict scd...and she had an extremely strong response to it...(she is running out of things to eat!!).. My son has had a sore mouth and/or itchy chin etc. all his life until months in scd when I eliminated some cooked veggies.(and he was already limited with these) My daughter has little food choices now...she reacts to only a few foods now..so she is eating some foods which she responds to the least, and some raw romaine lettuce and raw cantloupe(i think she don't respond to these)...her stomach is ok so far, but that mouth of hers.I don't think these reactions are life threatening as I'm sure something would of happened long ago with one of these kids... I think scd has cleared up the acid reflex. It would be interesting what your allergist will say...do you actually have one that will listen? The impression i have been given by most of the specialists I have seen is " wait till they are really sick...then we will have to run some tests...maybe the problem will go away...let's just wait a few more years " One doctor told me I needed help!HA! I have given up with them in Canada. Thanks to 2 wonderful U.S. friends:) I have found a doctor in the U.S. that may be able to help. Maybe he will be able to figure this out. I am talking to my family physican tuesday...and making an appointment with this doctor(hopefully with his support)...I can't wait for the doctors in Canada ...these kids are having a really hard time dealing with these life long food limitations...they look pretty malnourished too.My son is refusing to eat yogurt now and sometimes he won't eat eggs...he is eating some raw fruit/veggie..and that doesn't make him feel too well...i have given up trying to stop him... i am just encouraging him to eat things he responds to less. Guest guest
Hi Cathy, << It would be interesting what your allergist will say...do you > actually have one that will listen?>> I have to get a referral to one by my family doctor (who I will probably get better info from - very smart lady). I live in Newfoundland so I have limited options. My daughter had allergy testing (scratch test) years ago and I need to do a follow up to see if she has outgrown her antibiotic allergy. <<The impression i have been given > by most of the specialists I have seen is " wait till they are really > sick...then we will have to run some tests...maybe the problem will > go away...let's just wait a few more years " One doctor told me I > needed help!HA!>> I had a similar situation , don't see him any longer and have since found out he isn't thought of well in the medical community. > i am just encouraging him to eat things he responds to less. If he does well with yogurt I'd try to encourage it because he has healing properties. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs mom of and
