when to use ABX?

My son's GI doctor prescribed Flagyl for his bacterial overgrowth. He has never

had an ABX in his life, so I don't know if I am going to use it. Without me

mentioning anything about SCD, she suspects he is having episodes of D-Lactic

Acidosis and gave me an undated script to get blood drawn the next time he is

acting drunk. I could easily provoke this by giving him a bag of carrots and

driving to the nearest blood draw station (LOL). Lots of heavy duty ABX (not

Flagyl) seem to be the mainstream treatment for D-Lactic Acidosis. Since my son

tolerates so few of the SCD carbs, might ABX help him achieve legal carb

tolerance faster? So far, he mostly just tolerates raw romaine lettuce leaves

and lemon juice in his yogurt at this point. He also eats several meats and

cheddar cheese. There are a few other carbs that he is borderline on

tolerating.

Hi ,

Have you ever tried lauricidin? Pam Ferro uses it in her clinic. It is

great against bacteria and fungi. Please start out with tiny amounts

because the die off reaction is powerful. It is only available from

one source:

Mimi,

I have some of this in the cupboard that we could be using.

I originally got it for our daughter, but it didn't

help--later found out she had Cdiff--so that's why. Our

sons also have bacterial/fungal problems and I looked at the

laricidin in the cupboard, but it sounds like they promote

taking it " forever " . Do you know if Pam Ferro is able to

take her patients off of it? Thanks.

Rhonda,

I hope that with SCD we will not need it forever. I will ask Pam and

get back to you.

Does he have yeast overgrowth?

When my yeast problem was at its worst I could not tolerate carrots

even cooked very soft and pureed.

No, his GI doctor repeated his stool test 3 times for yeast to make sure we

didn't have a false negative. He only has non-pathogenic bacterial overgrowth

such as lactabacilli (which is why I'm now concerned about giving any yogurt or

probiotic). He is not just reacting to carrots, he is reacts to all legal carbs

except he seems to get a way with romaine lettuce leaves and lemon/lime juice.

I proved this to myself by feeding him nothing but protein one day. He was a

perfect child. Then I tested all of the stage 1-2 fruits (bad). I thought he

was okay with nut butter, but I realized he gets wacko from that too.

Hi ,

Is it all the nut butters. Pecan butter would be the easiest to digest

along with blanched almond butter. I do well with blanched macadamia

butter and some people who react to the others are okay with it - high

in good fats.

Fruit wise have you thought about using some of the berries that are

high in nutrients but lower in carbs. If you aren't ready for fresh

berries you could try juicing them to get nutrients (diluted at least %

50 with water). Another option (depending on bowel movements) is to

press fresh berries thru a seive to strain out seeds and skins.
