Guest guest
Hi all, I have been trying to start SCD since three weeks ago but stuck in a yogurt maker as it is very hard to find one here. Ordered from GI Pro but then couldn't find the power supply/adaptor (we use 240V) here so I have to cancel it. Ordered from an Australian co but has to wait for another couple of weeks. At last managed to buy an old one (looks very old) from a local auction, then I have the problem to get it started to the correct temperature (don't have the manual or instruction nor the yogurt liner or insert) I did a test by putting a quarter part of cold water into the maker and plugged it in and also put a cooking thermometer inside it. The temperature rose so slow, after two hours it reached 68F after four hours it reached 86F which is still too low and it stayed that way for another hour and a half. According to the seller, they only used it once from new and did have a good normal yogurt from it and I have to leave it up to 24 hours to see the result. My question is, is it the normal procedure for a yogurt maker to take so long to reach a normal 100 - 109F? Pls help and thanks.
Guest guest
It would be more helpful if you placed warm water in the container. The temp does rise slowly, but I don't know how slowly since I've never checked the temp in mine. You can begin SCD without yogurt. Guest guest
My yogurt maker was too hot, so I threw a heating pad over it and turned it to high (without turning the yogurt maker on), it was the perfect temp, so that's how I have been making yogurt. - claricebellemum wrote: Hi all, I have been trying to start SCD since three weeks ago but stuck in a yogurt maker as it is very hard to find one here. Guest guest
Hi guys, Thanks for the helps. I have put warm water in the machine and it works fine and start making my first batch but ouchh.. I did silly thing as I should have put 1/8 cup of a good quality commercial yogurt (for 500ml of milk). Instead, I put 1/4 cup of the yogurt. Would this make a very strong yogurt for my daughter or is it okay for her to consume after 24 hours fermentation and how much is the quantity she can take for the first time. Thanks again. Another question, Up to 2 yo, she has 3 to 4 times bowel movement a day (not diarhhea) and it looks normal and soft (up to that age I fed her commercial baby food in a jar). Over 2 yo, I gave her the same food we ate. We ate wheatmeal or multi grain bread almost every morning & any other ordinary food plus snacks mostly from wheat. Her stool is usually firm, sometimes hard and sometimes soft and yellowish or brownish in colour but I can always see all the fibres she ate i.e spinach, carrot, pineapple. they are left undigested. About two times I have to pull the string of spinach from her bum and she hardly chews her food eventhough I have encouraged her to do so. Is this the one, people called as leaky gut? is it the same as celiac? Regards Leena Mum to Clarice Belle, 2 y 10mths, ASD > > It would be more helpful if you placed warm water in the container. It may be a little firmer. 1/8- 1/4 tsp for the first time. <<Up to 2 yo, she has 3 to 4 times bowel movement a day (not diarhhea) > and it looks normal and soft (up to that age I fed her commercial > baby food in a jar). You could cook the veggies until softer (boiled or steamed well, pressure cooker etc and or puree them. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Thanks Sheila, I feel better knowing that it is normal for toddler to have undigested food and yes, I have started pureeing most of the food she eats and by the way, I have given her the homemade yogurt for about 200 ml a day! as she likes it so much when I mix it with honey. It probably taste like yogurt ice cream for her and she looks fine. Does it mean I can keep on giving her the yogurt as much as she wants? I plan to do introduce stage during school holiday which will start on the 2nd July here. On mix stages at the moment without nut flour and the teacher thinks she has improved quite a bit especially in eye contact and co-operation. Thanks for your time answering all the questions. Try not to overdo it though- remember to keep the food groups in as much balance as you can (fruit, veggie, protein, dairy). << Thanks for your time > answering all the questions. >> You are very welcome Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, Uc 23 yrs mom of and > > >
