Guest guest
Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a pain free day. I just needed to vent a little. I start nursing school in less than a week and am excited and scared to death that I won't be able to finish because of being hospitalized and missing too much time because of my CP. I haven't shared my being scared to anyone because I want everyone to remain optomistic. All of my family and friends have been nothing but encouraging that I WILL make it through the next year. Well several people have approached me and told me that my mother in law is telling everyone that I am just wasting my time and her sons money because there is no way I will be able to finish. She already has a history of doing this kind of thing to me and I know I shouldn't let it get to me but it hurts when she does this kind of thing. My husband says to look forward to the day when I graduate and show her I could do it. I can't tell her that she is hurting me by saying this because whenever she does something like this and I've told her she's hurting me, she turns it around making me out to be the bad guy. I just want to strangle her sometimes. I know I am rambling on but this is what she does to me, make me a grade A head case. Nursing is my life long dream and I know it will be a challenge but I'm only 31 and don't want to just give up on doing it just because I have CP. If I don't make it alteast I TRIED and won't have any regrets. Stout
Guest guest
, it doesn't matter how long it takes you...once you pass that final exam and graduate, you have done it..whether it be 4 years or 40 years..you will be a nurse no matter what time frame. As for those she has mentioned it to, if you come across those people, your enthusiasm when you talk to them should show that you believe you will do this in a reasonable time frame, and you never know...they might just take her comments with a grain of salt already...if they know what she is like. The only people who matter are your family and friends...those who believe in you and love you for who, what and how you are will know that you are going to complete this study and vocation of your lifelong dream... Guest guest
1. It took me eight years to complete my BSc in Computer Science and I wasn't even sick at the time. I just got hungry and need to work. So I put off some education after I got enough money( wasn't hungry any more). The bad side is as soon as I got my BSc in Computer Science that four months later I had that surgery that started me down this road. 2. Try not to listen to her and do your very best. That is all anyone can expect even yourself. If needed take your time. Walt
Guest guest
, I know exactly how you feel as I went through the absolute same thing. I was 30 when I decided I wanted to go into nursing. I had no back round in health care what so ever plus a newborn boy and a girl who was 4. Every one thought it was just another one of my crazy whims. I started out in night school so that Icould take all the necessary pre-req's, English, math, chemestry, phych, etc. Then I applied to the MUSC college of nursing and was accepted. My MIL was the most shocked because for years she went on and on about how I was wasting her son's hard earned money. In my junior year at MUSC I found out I was pregant, my father died suddenly and my mother started having these strokes that made her weaker and weaker. It was so hard to keep up with my studies, my home and my mother's home. the whole time my MIL still went on and on about how I should be staying home with my family. In June of 96 I walked down the long portico and received my BSN degree, 2 days after my son graduated from kindergarten. I started working as a RN at MUSC the following fall and have loved every single second of it. I cant wait until I am strong enough to go back to work. Dont let anybody tell you what you cant do and dont settle for less then what you want other wise you will spend the rest of your life wondering 'what if'. I'll never forget the day I told my husband I was going to class. He walked me out to the car, looking very sad (he ahd two kids in the house to feed), I asked him if he was OK with all this and he is the one who said " I dont want to spend the rest of our lives wondering what if " . You are going to be a great nurse, if you have a spell and have to slow down a bit, so what. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to get there, just that you get there. It took me 5 years to get a 4 year degree. So what. That degree hangs on my wall, beautifully framed by my mother, and it reminds me that nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it. I would say good luck but I dont think you need it; you have all the faith and determination to see this through, and besides nursing school is a lot of fun too. Keep in touch and let me know how it goes. Warmly,
Guest guest
Hi , If you don't want his mother to aggravate you, take away all the power you have given her. If you don't let anything she says bother you, you've taken away the power she has to aggravate you. This is a trick I use when someone bothers me repeatedly and/or I sense that they like to tick people off. I just refuse to let them effect me at all. It does work...Jim
