Guest guest
Hello Sheila, I am making yogurt with a heating pad like you do and I put it on at 7:30 PM last night. The water was at 104 degrees. I checked it at 11:00 PM and the temp was 108 degrees. This morning at 6:45 AM the temp was 114 degrees. I let it cool down to 105 degrees. Is the yogurt ok or should I start over, again? Thanks so much! Hinojosa, mother to Benito, 3.5 yo, SCD since 2/14/

Guest guest
Hi , I think this may be okay as long as you cooled it to room temperature or below before adding the culture. Did you take the temperature of the water or the yogurt temp? Starting temp of 104 °F was the water correct (if yes, that is good) Since it spent a number of hours at the lower temp range this is probably fine. Just finish fermenting for 24 hours. sheila Yogurt at 114 degrees, Sheila Hello Sheila, I am making yogurt with a heating pad like you do and I put it on at 7:30 PM last night. Guest guest
Thanks Sheila! I added the culture to the milk at 69 degrees. The temperature of the water was 104 degrees when I put in the cultured milk. At that point the milk was still at 69 degrees. What I did different this time is I wrapped the outer container with the water in it with a blanket so it heated up more than I expected. Without the blanket the water was maintaining at around 104 degrees and that was with the heating pad set at medium but at night I set it on medium and the temp would drop to 100 or 101 degrees. I thought the blanket would keep the water temp from going down to low through the night. But it worked a little too good:) Thanks again > > Hi , > > I think this may be okay as long as you cooled it to room temperature or below before adding the culture. > > Did you take the temperature of the water or the yogurt temp?
