Guest guest
Dear Antoinette, First the stupid question: Can the doctors lower your daughter's metabolism? I know that a sluggish metabolism can be increased and that a too fast metabolism can be decreased through medication. Is this possible for her? Even if her metabolism could be decreased by just a few hundred calories a day, it would be helpful. I have often wondered how many people that can't keep weight on while SCD are hyperthyroid and that they just haven't been properly tested and diagnosed. Second dumb question: Can you make an fortified almond milk to exchange for the breast milk? I use 1 cup almonds to 4 cups water, this makes a cup of almond milk with about 90 calories. You could also use more almonds to make the milk to increase the calories; 1.5 cups almonds to 4 cups water. If you were to add olive oil to this and honey, it would increase the caloric count and the oil should help keep the almond milk from seperating as much as it normaly does. You could add a safe extract like almond for flavor. Penzey's Spices has great extracts that are safe. The vanilla extract has sugar, but the other flavors I had tried do not. I mention the olive oil because in the knowledge base Elaine recomended: " If we want to put on weight, we should prefer mono- insaturated fats. " Which she defined as olive oil and hazelnut oil and avocados. This is under the heading of Omega Fatty Acids in the Legal/Illegal list under knowledge base. Sorry if I am way off base with this, but it is a sincere effort to be of some help.
