Guest guest
Hi All, My name is and I just joined the group as we are planning on starting SCD tomorrow. We have been GFCFSF as well as artificial color and preservative free for about five months and that diet alone has nearly completely recovered my son. However, we still struggle with yeast and bacteria which is what brought me to SCD. Once I started reading about how it actually helps heal the gut as well as helping to tackle those pesky gut bugs, I got even more excited about it. Anyway, starting off, I have a few questions/things I want to clarify and I would appreciate any input. I really want to do this right! 1. We will be starting the intro tomorrow and I am wondering if I can season the meat/eggs during this phase? I have looked over the list of legal spices, but not sure if that counts during Intro? If I can season it, any seasoning advice to make the stuff taste good to my little guy would be helpful. Also, I know there is no fruit in the intro so I am wondering if 2-4 tablespoons of pear sauce during the intro to give his vitamins and probiotics in would ruin the effects of the diet? 2. Sticking strictly to the diet, has anyone had huge success getting rid of yeast and bacteria (specifically Clostridia) without prescription medication? 3. I was surprised to see eggs in the intro. I thought they were a top allergen. Why are they in the intro diet? Are they easy to digest? 4. For those of you who were GFCF before starting SCD, did you introduce the goat's milk yogurt later in the diet? I would really like to (obviously much later down the road) as the benefits seem to be fabulous from what I have read. I would like to hear pros and cons. 5. Finally, I'm a bit confused on the time line for introducing new foods. I know each child is different and that the time it takes varies, but I need something to go on. In general, do you start introducing foods every few days or more like every few weeks Sorry this is so long and if some of my questions seem goofy. I'm sure this will all become second nature, but for now, I'm a bit confused. Thanks in advance! -- --------------------------------- You snooze, you lose. Guest guest
Welcome to the group , << 1. We will be starting the intro tomorrow and I am wondering if I can season the meat/eggs during this phase? I have looked over the list of legal spices, but not sure if that counts during Intro?>> It is better to do the intro with only the foods that are listed for it. Some people start the diet wihout the intro and still do fine. It is a personal choice but we do recommend the intro for 2-5 days if possible. << If I can season it, any seasoning advice to make the stuff taste good to my little guy would be helpful. Also, I know there is no fruit in the intro so I am wondering if 2-4 tablespoons of pear sauce during the intro to give his vitamins and probiotics in would ruin the effects of the diet?>> If you do the intro pearsauce won't work. The intro helps to clear out the microbes while feeding the body. What about adding his vitamins to the juices on the intro. <<2. Sticking strictly to the diet, has anyone had huge success getting rid of yeast and bacteria (specifically Clostridia) without prescription medication?>> Some have, but many use meds. Also some find Saccharomyces boulardii helps with Clostridia. <<3. I was surprised to see eggs in the intro. I thought they were a top allergen. Why are they in the intro diet? Are they easy to digest?>> Yes, eggs are easy to digest. However if you are allergic to eggs continue to avoid them. <<5. Finally, I'm a bit confused on the time line for introducing new foods. In general, do you start introducing foods every few days or more like every few weeks>> A new food every few days. Try to do them one at a time so can you can properly guage if they are tolerated then or if you need to wait a while longer. Guest guest
Sheila, thank you for taking the time to help me out. I have read over pecanbread and the book should arrive in the mail today which should help. At any rate, I have a follow up question. When you suggested possibly adding his vitamins to the juices on the intro, I was pleasantly surprised to find out there were juices allowed in the intro. How could I have missed that?!? Can you send me the link to the most accurate list of what you can have on the intro (apparently the one I looked at did not include everything unless I accidentally overlooked it) and/or list the juices allowed and the quantity that is allowed? Again, thank you so much! -- If you do the intro pearsauce won't work. The intro helps to clear out the microbes while feeding the body. What about adding his vitamins to the juices on the intro. Again, thank you so much!>> This is one of the intro diet (dairy free). http://pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#intro It mentions pure grape juice (purple, white or red). Pure apple cider is also legal on the intro diet. There is a list of legal juices at http://pecanbread.com/new/legalfoods1.html So the juices for the intro are legal apple cider and/or legal grape juice (legal commercial or home juiced) All juices should be diluted at least by 50% at the beginning of the diet. No real limit except what is tolerated by your child. Do try and get them to eat some foods Some children are quite thirsty at the beginning and are happier to drink then eat the foods. Guest guest
Thanks Sheila, It was the Jello that threw me off. Now I see that the Jello can be made with pure white or red grape juice. That is the perfect solution for our vitamin situation. Speaking of vitamins and supplements, are these legal on the intro? We use Brainchild Spectrum 1vitamins, coromega fish oil supplement, and probiotics. Thanks again for all your help. -- Sheila Trenholm wrote: Hi , <<I was pleasantly surprised to find out there were juices allowed in the intro. How could I have missed that?!?
