Guest guest
i wonder if i jinxed myself by saying the tramadol works for me,no narcotics.now it isnt working at all.i have been in pain since the 3rd but with all the family get togethers for the holiday i didnt rest like i should, and i waited until everything was over on the 4th before i took any tramadol.by then the pain was so bad i had a feeling it wouldnt help,it didnt.i pretty much stayed home these last 2 days, not eating and only drinking water.my pancreas seems to have calmed down so i ate a little earlier, now i am having pain under my right rib cage, plus crampy lower abdomen pain.is this normal with cp? the sUggestion of using a heating pad really helped, but i couldnt sleep on my right side because my husband kept poking me in the stomach with his elbow![ouch]also ,im ticked at my pcp right now.they are the ones who made the diagnosis of cp,but sent me on my merry little way with no enzymes or any thing for the pain.i had to call and ask when he prescribed the tramadol.then ,they are the ones that called friday after my ct,saying i need to be seen by a g.i....A.S.A.P.BUT they dont set my appt.up until july26.so i have an appt. to see my pcp tomorrow for a diffrent problem and i will ask him to start me on enzymes and to give me something stronger for the pain though i dont know of any thing non-narcotic he can give me.im all new at this medical stuff and i fell kinda lost with it all. thanks for listening and i hope everyone is well this evening.CINDY
Guest guest
Hi Cindy. I'm sorry that you have had sucha bad weekend. Tramadol is a good drug but when your having a bad panc attack it pretty much is useless. there are a lot of different meds you can discuss with your doc. Vicodan worked for me for a while but it does have a good bit of tylenol in it and taking too much of that is bad for ones liver. Do you have any drug allergies? Dilaudid worked well for me and I took it for years. When I became very very ill Demerol was added to the mix but I had withdrawel from it when I stopped. A lot of people take oxycodone (which I am taking now but not for cp) and oxycontin, but but they can be addictive and the withdrawel can be rather uncomfortable. I ran out over the weekend and even tho I have only been on it for 6 weeks or so I had mild withdrawel, hate that. A lot of people on here like the Fentanyl patches, Duragesic. I have never used those so I really cant comment but from what I have heard from others it is very successful in pain reduction. Also I would strongly recommend that you get some GasX or other anti gas med when you start on the panreatic enzymes. It will take your body some time to get accustomed to it and gas can be horribly painful. Most enzymes do cause a lot of gas. I take creon and it works wonderfully. It will help a lot with your pain and the ability to absorb the nutrients from food that you will need to maintain strength and a healthy body. If there is anything that I can help with, please dont hesitate for one second. I do hope you feel better and good luck with your doc tomorrow. Oh and by the way getting any appt with a good GI in just a couple of weeks is not bad at all. I have known some that have a 2 month wait and a long waiting list. Warmly, (SC)
