Guest guest
I don't think you can change its form. I don't know the illegal parts, but it is produced with dairy and therefore, they cannot claim it to be dairy free.... --- Anya Akerlundh wrote: > Our GI doctor is thinking in swithing Anya from > Purinethol to VSL#3. > Which are the illegal strains on it? Guest guest
Hi Araceli, <<Our GI doctor is thinking in swithing Anya from Purinethol to VSL#3 > Which are the illegal strains on it?>> The illegal strains in it are " 3 strains of bifidobacteria (B. longum, B. breve, and B. infantis) " The other strains are found in yogurt and other fermented food ( L. plantarum is found in homemade sauerkraut). SCD Yogurt has very high amounts of good bacteria. The bacteria are also protected by the yogurt and are able to travel further in the GI tract and do greater healing than regular (freeze dried) probiotics. The amounts in yogurt are approximately 3 billion CFU's/mL That is about 15 billion CFU's/teaspoon. In 1 cup of yogurt you'll have ~ 750 billion good bacteria. If you use dripped yogurt it will be higher. <<Would it be possible to acquire > it without illegals at compound pharmacies?>> Elaine was concerned about using some of the other good bacteria out of their natural sources. L. acidophilus has had many, many years of good reports from the medical community and also positive feedback from ASCDers. Bifidobacteria on the other hand is newer to the supplement market and has had a lot of very bad feedback from SCDers (flares etc.) please see http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/65524 Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs
Guest guest
Everyone is different and this is just our experience, but each time our 8yo son (with uc) began taking anything with bifidus, he became extremely ill and it took months to recover. This happened in the summer of '05 with Metagenics Ultra Bifidus Dairy Free, and then in the summer of '06 with VSL#3. We are just now getting back to normal after a terrible flare last fall that got much worse after he started VSL#3.
