Guest guest
my son who is 3 1/2 is about to start this diet, we have never started a diet at all i did remove dairy from his regular diet and saw improvement in behaviors. When I had become all knowing about the gfcf diet I found out about this one and knew he had a lot of yeast issues and this would benefit him most, so we never started gfcf. I am curious with that being said do I need to follow the asd intro to the diet or would it be ok to just give him scd legal food without an intro? I have skimmed the book and it's not clear to me he can have raw fruits? or not? why cook them, does that make it easier to digest? or is that just on the asd intro? I think I am mainly confused because where it talks about asd intro it says b/c most of these kids have been gfcf this is the recomended intro, but we weren't gfcf, so I feel it's not applicable to me, but maybe I am wrong? very confused, appreciate any advice, encouragement, opinons, facts, thanks, CeCelia
Guest guest
Cecelia, Welcome. Yes, you should start with teh intro diet. It allows the body to " clear the decks " for optimal healing by starving out a large amount of the overgrown yeast and bacteria. You will want to use pealed, seeded, and well cooked fruits and vegetables for several months to allow more healing because they are much easier to digest since cooking breaks the cellular wall of the food down for the body...making the gut have to work less. You need to read the book thoroughly, and read through the information on pecanbread.com. This will explain sooo much. Even though you haven't done GFCF for you son, you should do the dairy free version of the intro diet, and stay dairy free for the first couple of months. He has been taken off dairy, so it would be best to leave it that way for a while. After a couple of months of strict SCD, you can start introducing dairy very slowly by making the SCD 24 hour goat yogurt. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Cecelia, <<i did remove dairy from his regular diet and saw > improvement in behaviors....so we never started gfcf. I am > curious with that being said do I need to follow the asd intro to the > diet or would it be ok to just give him scd legal food without an intro?>> We really encourage people to try and do the intro diet even for a day or two. The maximum time on the intro diet is 5 days and that is usually for those with diarrhea. The intro diet will help starve out the harmful microbes while feeding the body with the easiest to digest and absorb nutrients. It is the best start for SCD. However, if you absolutely can't do the intro then just stick to regular SCD. It may take longer to get rid of the 'nasties' but it will happen with the diet. << I have skimmed the book and it's not clear to me he can have raw > fruits? or not? why cook them, does that make it easier to digest?>> It is harder for a damaged gut to digest raw fruits and vegetables. Peeling and cooking them makes it easier for the body to 'milk' nutrients out of the plant cells leaving next to nothing for the harmful microbes to live on. With raw fruits and vegetables any undigested fibres and sugars can feed harmful bacteria and yeast. << or > is that just on the asd intro?>> No, it isn't for just the intro. The peeled cooked fruits and for those still showing symptoms. As the body heals it will be able to breakdown the fibers in raw fruits and veggies - it just takes time. << I think I am mainly confused because > where it talks about asd intro it says b/c most of these kids have been gfcf this is the recomended intro, but we weren't gfcf, so I feel it's not applicable to me, but maybe I am wrong?>> The ASD intro is dairy free so for those who were dairy free preSCD they can follow this version of the SCD intro diet. If you want to try dairy you'd have the option of the original intro diet that includes dairy. Does that help un-confuse things?
