Guest guest
i wrote down a list of what is allowed on the intro diet which can last from 2 to 5 days: Chicken, turkey, hamburger, fish?, carrots, egg, oil, jello, Cheesecake (w/o lemon rind. Ingreds: eggs, honey??, yogurt, dccc, vanilla), Intro Beverages: Pressed apple cider or diluted grape juice (white or grape) mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with water, Water, No smoothies but yogurt is ok??. his igg intolerance include: beef, garlic, pork, cantaloupe, honeydew, pecans, codfish, grapefruit, onion, carrots, lamb, salmon, flounder, chicken, orange, turkey, clam, pear, string beans, casein, grouper, snapper, swordfish, orange roughy, msg, zucchini. this leaves very little he can eat the 1st few days of the intro. i have narrowed the intro list of foods down to: fish, eggs, oil, jello, grape juice, pressed apple cider, yogurt, dccc and vanilla. i can not find legal pressed apple cider so he will only be able to drink grape juice. is it ok to make scd mayo with white vinegar, dry mustard & olive oil for deviled eggs?, if it is ok to use dccc and yogurt in the cheesecake, can i serve dccc mixed with yogurt every meal? can i try to get him to drink the goat yogurt straight up as a drink or should i limit the yogurt? is fish allowed on the intro? if so, what fish can he have if he is igg intolerant to codfish, grouper, snapper, swordfish & orange roughy? should i avoid all igg intolerances, such as chicken, until after 6 wks of scd? he doesn't seem to react too bad to chicken so i was wondering if it is ok to do a small amount of chicken on 1 of the intro days or is it better to wait til after 6 wks with no igg harmful foods? if he can't have chicken, turkey, or beef is there any reason he can't substitute for rabbit, bison or buffalo? i just read it is ok to substitute winter squash for carrots on the intro? if this is true, what kind of squash can he have if he is allergic to zucchini and reacts to acorn squash? i am worried because he still is a very picky eater so all i think he will eat on the intro is grape juice, cheesecake (maybe) and gelatin (maybe). i doubt he will eat eggs since he only likes them pureed in applesauce. i have gone back to the intro twice and each time he refuses to eat so he only drinks grape juice for several days. are there any other foods that i can substitute on the intro? thanks for your help, eileen (mom, chronic fatigue syndrome, yeast overgrowth & possible heavy metal toxicity); cole (3 yrs old, SCD 9 mos, ASD, encepholitis, heavy metal toxicity) & emily (1 yr old, malabsorption, allergies, colitis, failure to thrive, high levels of lactic acid/ammonia/alkaline phosphalase & possible metal toxicity). Guest guest
Hi Eileen, << i wrote down a list of what is allowed on the intro diet which can > last from 2 to 5 days: Chicken, turkey, hamburger, fish?>> broiled fish (broiled to remove fats which are harder to digest)is on the intro <<carrots,> egg, oil, jello, Cheesecake (w/o lemon rind. Ingreds: eggs, honey??> yogurt, dccc, vanilla)>>, It is the cheesecake recipe in BTVC baked only to a custard consistency. More liquidy than dry allows it to be digested easier. Baked without the crust. Their is some honey on the intro - it helps supply legal carbs/calories - if yeast is a problem you can reduce honey/omit it (saccharine?). <<, Intro Beverages: Pressed apple cider or > diluted grape juice (white or grape) mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with water, > Water, No smoothies but yogurt is ok??.>> Baked yogurt in the cheesecake or a small amount of yogurt to moisten the DCCC. If concerned the yogurt will cause too much die off when added to the DCCC (you can freeze it to reduce the probiotic effect and the possibe die off reactions > <<> his igg intolerance include: beef, garlic, pork, cantaloupe, > honeydew, pecans, codfish, grapefruit, onion, carrots, lamb, salmon, > flounder, chicken, orange, turkey, clam, pear, string beans, casein,> grouper, snapper, swordfish, orange roughy, msg, zucchini.>> For the fish how about tilapia, halibut etc..? <<this leaves very little he can eat the 1st few days of the intro. i > have narrowed the intro list of foods down to: fish, eggs, oil, > jello, grape juice, pressed apple cider, yogurt, dccc and vanilla. > > i can not find legal pressed apple cider so he will only be able to > drink grape juice.>> If you have a juicer you can make your own apple juice. Remeber to dilute it with water (at least 50%). If you don't have a juicer you may be able to make something by peeling & coring apples, chopping them up and blending with enough water to get the blades churning. Dilute after blending and then strain to remove the pulp. (Cheesecloth/clean dish towel and a colander) You could make the cooked apple juice folowing http://www.pecanbread.com/new/recipes/homemademulledapplejuice.html just omit the oranges, spices and honey. <<is it ok to make scd mayo with white vinegar, dry > mustard & olive oil for deviled eggs?>> Mayo isn't part of the original intro diet. Fats are harder to digest, that is why fish and meats are broiled. <<, if it is ok to use dccc and > yogurt in the cheesecake, can i serve dccc mixed with yogurt every > meal?>> Yes << can i try to get him to drink the goat yogurt straight up as a > drink or should i limit the yogurt?>> You should probably skip this on the intro. << is fish allowed on the intro? if > so, what fish can he have if he is igg intolerant to codfish, > grouper, snapper, swordfish & orange roughy?>> Tilapia, halibut, flounder, plaice, brill, turbot and sole (blacksole lemon sole etc..) <<should i avoid all igg intolerances, such as chicken, until after 6 > wks of scd? he doesn't seem to react too bad to chicken so i was > wondering if it is ok to do a small amount of chicken on 1 of the > intro days or is it better to wait til after 6 wks with no igg > harmful foods?>> Since you have little variety you may want to try the chicken either after a few days on the intro or after the intro. You may find less reaction from hormone free, antibiotic free, organic chicken (if you can find it) << if he can't have chicken, turkey, or beef is there any reason he > can't substitute for rabbit, bison or buffalo?>> These would be okay on the intro as ground meats. <<i just read it is ok to substitute winter squash for carrots on the intro?>> No, you can not substitute squash for carrots for the intro. please see http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/67578 for an explanation. << if this is true, what kind of squash can he have if he is > allergic to zucchini and reacts to acorn squash?>> After the intro you might want to try other squash. I often had trouble with butternut squash but was okay with buttercup - wjat I mean is different people tolerate other variety of winter squash. Other squashes: turban, buttercup, kabocha, cucumber etc.. > i am worried because he still is a very picky eater so all i think he> will eat on the intro is grape juice, cheesecake (maybe) and gelatin > (maybe). i doubt he will eat eggs since he only likes them pureed in> applesauce. i have gone back to the intro twice and each time he > refuses to eat so he only drinks grape juice for several days. are > there any other foods that i can substitute on the intro? >> You shouldn't substitute on the intro, but can try some of the other foods (like the squashes) after a couple of days. So if he won't eat much you could try doing the strict intro for less time and then progressing to his " basic diet " and beyond.
