Deb,

As an old surgery nurse (now doing research) I can attest that the

anesthetic portion of the surgery is probably the safest part. For this

surgery you are under anesthesia less than an hour (barring any surgical

complications). Anesthesia was very good to explain the entire process to

me and allow me to ask questions. They did almost a more thorough medical

review than my PCP did. In addition, the nurse in preop holding (the one

that started my IV on the first try - a first in history)also works with

them and she was fabulous. I can't believe I can't remember her name.

I slept very little prior to the surgery . For a month I was either too

excited, too nervous, too something to sleep so I'll tell you I appreciated

a chemically induced slumber.

My suggestion would be to talk to the anesthesia group on the same day you

have pre-op clinic. Just explain to them that portion of the process makes

you leery and I'll bet they'll be terrific.
