Guest guest
I'm getting ready to start my whole family on SCD and am looking for a good cookbook. I enjoy cooking but wouldn't consider myself a gourmet cook. We're an average family and the kids aren't picky eaters but I'm looking for something with solid, simple recipes. Thanks in advance,
Guest guest
I LOVE Lucy's Cookbook. Available from http://www.lucyskitchenshop.com Everything I've tried so far has been fantasticly yummy and simple to make! And there are plenty of recipes that don't require nut flour (which makes it great for those of us in the intro and early stages or with nut allergies). I would say the recipes are just what you are looking for, " solid and simple. " I have Grain Free Gourmet also, but the recipes seem a little fussier and there are many more of them that require nut flours and tons of desserts that we can't make because we can't tolerate honey. :-( Maybe this cookbook will be more useful to us once we are more advanced on SCD. I am looking at buying SCD with taste and Tradition and Eat Well to Feel Well available at digestivewellness.com. They both look pretty good, although the later seems a little more gourmet oriented. Also have you looked at the recipe section at pecanbread.com? There is some great stuff there too! K Hashi's, Fibro, CFS, yeast/candida, copper overload, adrenal fatigue (mostly healed!!!) kids: son Rhowan 5 yrs old, chronic loose stools/diarrhea, ADHD, yeast/candida, salicylate intolerance; daughter Willow 6.5 yrs old, mild GI issues, salicylate intolerance SCD take two 1 month (Today is Day One of Intro Diet (slightly modified because of salicylate issues). > > I'm getting ready to start my whole family on SCD and am looking for a good cookbook. Guest guest
I see you have some advice on the cook books already. I would also suggest the recipes on scdrecipes.com. I love the cranberry pork roast! In addition, I am able to adapt many of the recipes on the foodnetwork site to SCD compliant ones. > >Reply-To: pecanbread >To: pecanbread >Subject: SCD cookbooks >Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2007 20:06:34 -0000 > >I'm getting ready to start my whole family on SCD and am looking for a good >cookbook. Guest guest
I see you mentioning cookbooks. Do you know any SCD cookbooks that would be good for my son- him being highly sensitive to sal's, and following the Feingold diet also? I've spent so much money already and can't keep buying in hopes that it will be usable. I would have to get ideas and build up to SCD. I need a month menu in place before I could start. I will have to prepare adequately so I could do it and succeed. Thanks for everything! Bonita son: - ADHD, OCD, Asperger's, highly salicylate sensitive > > > > I'm getting ready to start my whole family on SCD and am looking for > a good cookbook. Guest guest
Hi Bonita. So far I haven't had too much trouble with my Lucy's Cookbook and sals. I've excluded a few recipes that are tomato sauce based and the ones that are almond flour based, but most everything else can easily be adapted. If a recipe calls for a high sal fruit/veg or spice, it can easily just be omitted from the recipe in most cases. Often substitutions work out well too. For example, I've used chicken broth in place of tomato juice in some of the recipes. I would recommend looking around at the recipes at pecanbread.com and at scdrecipe.com. They are free and offer plenty of solutions to menu planning. I particularly love the ones at pecanbread.com because they are really kid geared. There are also some recipes in the Breaking the Vicious Cycle book. If you don't have that already, I highly recommend it. It would be hard to really understand this diet without that book. Once you get past the intro diet and have gotten a feel for some of the free SCD recipes and how you are able to use and adapt them to meet your needs, then maybe you can feel good about spending money on a cookbook. Also read through all the sections on the http://www.pecanbread.com before starting. There are so many helpful tips and information on that site. It will definitely help get you prepared to do this. Good luck! You can do this! It is so worth it.
