Deb,

The doc's right about the concentrated sweets. Refined sugar isn't

good for those of us with CP, being difficult to digest and although

many people eat it, it is one of those products that we've been

advised to stay away from.

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi

Oh Heidi, thank you. My GI and cystic fibrosis doctors have both told me

not to eat the CS. It is really hard to stay away but I am trying. Wish

me luck it sure is not easy. I think I just needed to hear from someone

here. Sometimes I have more faith in you all than the MD's. Take care.

Deb,

I do understand you when you say that it's not easy to resist RS

(refined sugars, or concentrated sugars). I'm as much a culprit as

anyone else, and I've found that since I've become diabetic that I

crave sugary type products more than I ever did before!! It's awful,

sometimes....those M & M's, Hersheys with Almond Bars, carrot cake,

chocolate anything....beckons like it never did before. I was never

much of a candy craver in adulthood, until diabetes!

Thank heavens for Splenda, I bake with that, and use applesauce with

my brownie mixes, and have learned to create some wonderful substitute

goodies, but the candy aisle at checkout still beckons when I'm

grocery shopping, so I've learned to turn my head and concentrate on

all the latest news in the tabloids....lol!

Mark Armstrong furnished us with a wonderful article about four years

ago on the PAI site that spoke in detail about the products that

people with CP needed to avoid. It said that we should avoid refined

sugars, white flour and white rice, and it explained why. I never

forgot that, and have since tried to find the article, and it seems to

be lost in space somewhere, but I've tried to follow it's advice as

much as I can.

Good luck with your willpower, too. It's hard, but not impossible!

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi

Heidi, Trying another day to improve on no refined sugar. Yes it is

difficult but I like your statement of not impossible. I really only

crave sugar candies like werthers and can go through a bag or more a day.

Sometimes it is because of my chronic sore throat. I just have to keep

telling myself that it is for my health I have to make this change.

Thanks for helping and as always I know I am not alone. Deb
