Guest guest
i am confused about beverage options for the intro and stage 1. i see that raw lemon, lime, oranges and pineapple are stage but is it ok to make my own lemonade with fresh lemon, drop of honey and drinking water? also, can we use pineapple juice and tropicana oj on stage 1? i saw the cooked apple juice recipe but was wondering if i can make fresh apple & spinach juice in a juicer with raw product in stage 1 or do i have to wait to use the juicer? also, can i throw some nutflour into the beef and chicken meatballs or do i have to wait until stage 3 to introduce nutflour. are yellow squash or zucchini buttons allowed on stage 1? is butter allowed on stage 1? what is the best butter to use? is there a legal organic shortening? i noticed they use organic shortening in a lot of the recipes on scd bakery. i know everyone progresses at a different rate but can someone give me an idea how long we should stay on stage 1. i am not sure how long i can hold out on using nutflour which is on stage 3. thanks, eileen mom of cole (3 yr old with asd), finally experimenting with new foods after 9 mos of SCD, 3 mos of dmsa, 1 dmps IV & 4 dives in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber
Guest guest
Hi, Eileen, I can answer some of your questions. I don't want to answer about the nut flour because I don't remember why you're doing stage one after 9 months SCD, so I hesitate to comment. But I can answer about juice. It is my understanding that Tropicana OJ, pineapple juice, your lemonade and any juices made in the juicer from raw fruits and veggies are ok on stage one. Butter is also if you are not avoiding casein. I don't remember what all is in the zucchini buttons, but I think it's a pretty simple nut-free recipe, so you could probably try them and see how your child reacts. The stages are just a general guideline. You move to the next stage by observing your child. This means that you need to try a very small amount of something in the next stage and observe. Then a somewhat larger amount, etc. to know if it's ok to go on to move advanced foods. No one can really tell you how long this will take. , mom to > > i am confused about beverage options for the intro and stage 1. i see > that raw lemon, lime, oranges and pineapple are stage but is it ok to > make my own lemonade with fresh lemon, drop of honey and drinking > water? also, can we use pineapple juice and tropicana oj on stage 1? > > i saw the cooked apple juice recipe but was wondering if i can make > fresh apple & spinach juice in a juicer with raw product in stage 1 or > do i have to wait to use the juicer? > > also, can i throw some nutflour into the beef and chicken meatballs or > do i have to wait until stage 3 to introduce nutflour. > > are yellow squash or zucchini buttons allowed on stage 1? > is butter allowed on stage 1? what is the best butter to use? > is there a legal organic shortening? i noticed they use organic > shortening in a lot of the recipes on scd bakery. > > i know everyone progresses at a different rate but can someone give me > an idea how long we should stay on stage 1. i am not sure how long i > can hold out on using nutflour which is on stage 3. > > > thanks, > eileen > mom of cole (3 yr old with asd), finally experimenting with new foods > after 9 mos of SCD, 3 mos of dmsa, 1 dmps IV & 4 dives in the > hyperbaric oxygen chamber >
Guest guest
Hi Eileen, <<i am confused about beverage options for the intro and stage 1. i see that raw lemon, lime, oranges and pineapple are stage but is it ok to make my own lemonade with fresh lemon, drop of honey and drinking water?>> These juices are fine to try after the intro diet. Just do one at a time to make sure they are tolerated. It is best to continue to dilute them to at least half water. <<also, can we use pineapple juice and tropicana oj on stage 1? >> Yes, you can also add these in after the intro diet. As above try one at a time and dilute them. The OJ is best started at either lunch or supper/dinner. Starting with it in the mornings 'may' cause stomach aches or loose stools. As improvements occur it may be tolerated in the mornings. A personal note about pineapple juice: I always had trouble with canned pineapple juice but recently starting juicing fresh pineapples. Not only did it seem to be tolerated it actually seemed to aid in my digestion (natural bromelain...). So, if you have problems with the canned juice (no natural enzymes after heat processing) consider juicing fruits yourself. << i saw the cooked apple juice recipe but was wondering if i can make fresh apple & spinach juice in a juicer with raw product in stage 1 or do i have to wait to use the juicer?>> No, you don't have to wait to use a juicer but it is concentrated. If you want to juice apple and spinach together first do both of them seperately to make sure they are tolerated. Start with small amounts of each and very important for SCD beginners to juicing is diluting the juice. As the bowel heals you may not need to dilute the juice as much. <<also, can i throw some nutflour into the beef and chicken meatballs or> do i have to wait until stage 3 to introduce nutflour.>> It depends on how the bowels are. If diarrhea is a problem it may be best to avoid the nut flour a while. How are the bm's? << are yellow squash or zucchini buttons allowed on stage 1?>> Depends on ingredients. I'd suggest veggies continuing to be peeled at that point. <<is butter allowed on stage 1?>> If a lot of diarrhea/severe constipation I'd continue to skip it. <<what is the best butter to use?>> From a SCD standpoint. The best would be cultured butter(organic or not is a personal choice). After that either salted or unsalted butter. There are a kazillion different brands. It should have no artificial flavour, no artificial colours, or other illegals. << is there a legal organic shortening? i noticed they use organic > shortening in a lot of the recipes on scd bakery.>> Spectrum organic Palm oil is legal. <<i know everyone progresses at a different rate but can someone give me an idea how long we should stay on stage 1. i am not sure how long i can hold out on using nutflour which is on stage 3.>> There is no timeline. It depends on symptoms, state of bowel movements and how foods are tolerated. Sheila, SCD Feb, 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
