Guest guest
Hi, Charlie always swallows his toothpaste. I used a kids toothpaste with carrageen in it until we started the intro diet yesterday. Last night and tonight I used baking soda with a bit of saccharine in it. (It tastes mostly nasty, but he still swallows it.) I know sodium bicarbonate is a salt (looked it up on wikipedia) and figured that shouldn't mess things up too much, from a bug-encouraging perspective. But later it occurred to me that it might change digestive chemistry in an undesirable way. So my question is, am I messing up the intro? There seem to be a lot of mistakes one can make (pan fried the burgers, only cooked the carrots for 2 hours). As we say in the programming business, there's never time to do it right, there's always time to do it over. Any thoughts? Thanks, Wayne [Charlie's (age 3) dad, ASD, Nut Diet 6 mos, SCD 2 days.]
Guest guest
Hi, Wayne, I don't think you have messed up the intro with the baking soda. If he's going to swallow something, baking soda would be the best. But some people do have their kids just brush with water. , mom to > > Hi, > > Charlie always swallows his toothpaste. Guest guest
Hi Wayne, One of our moderators use to work in a dentist's office and the dentist told her that brushing well was more important than paste and that paste is not necessary. That said there is a recipe at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/files/ for homemade toothpaste Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and > > Hi, > > Charlie always swallows his toothpaste. Guest guest
Thanks Sheila. I appreciate the guidance. Based on your feedback and 's (thank you, too ), I think I'll just go with water for now. I hope after a while of SCD, he'll start to understand that it's important to spit. If he's still swallowing after a month or two, I'll probably opt for just baking soda and salt, and see if he gets the message. Thanks again. P.S. That recipe looks a lot like one I saw on the web, and it's supposed to significantly cheaper than store-bought. You're supposed to be able to find glycerin in most drug stores. Do-it-yourselfers may want to try it just to save money. > > Hi Wayne, > > One of our moderators use to work in a dentist's office and the > dentist told her that brushing well was more important than paste and > that paste is not necessary.
