Guest guest
Hello group. Gosh, am I tired of realizing new therapies/diets/protocols that I KNOW my son requires for complete recovery. We have tried so any promising things with him. But alas...the embarkment on a new diet for my sweetie is just a few days away. The road to recovery has been a long and draining one. I admit the posts by Sheri are freaking me out greatly, but it still seems like SCD is the right thing to do. My son will probably be vomiting in a few days and Sheri will be talking me down (Good luck Sheri!!!!)... I am making my grocery lists so I have what I need to try to whip up things on the intro diet. I know there is a " perfect " way to eliminate everything from his diet. And I want to stay close to that to ensure I see the gut cleaned up and so I can carefully determine what he tolerates/what is working. I also want to ensure that I can indeed provide the foods he chooses to eat (if God-willing he will choose to eat some of the offered foods) when he wants them. With 3 kids under the age of 5 (all who treat me like a short-order cook for each snack and meal), I am trying to find the recipes that I think will tempt my son and be feasible to cook with moderate/short notice. I have a list of foods from the pure intro list that are good options, including the " soup " and chicken pancakes. I saw earlier today a post saying that all broths must be home-made. Before I read that, I thought our boxed chicken stock that we always use was legal...it does have 2 weird ingredients that *may* be the sticking points... The ingredient list reads: chicken stock (weird " ingredient " ), chicken flavor (second weird " ingredient " ), sea salt, honey, vegetable stock (including carrot, onion, mushroom, and celery), bay, thyme, pepper. I was wondering if the stock is SO bad that it would be a significant " cheat " or if it is just mildly illegal. It would really help if I could poach some chicken breasts in it and use it as a soup base to make the menu easier to make... Thanks for your help! ~ ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Got a little couch potato? Guest guest
Hi, , I am sorry to tell you that you cannot use the commercial broth. SCD is very strict and we do not have a category of " slightly illegal " . You will be cooking a lot, especially at the beginning. If you want your kids to be able to snack a lot, get your food ready ahead of time. Make up a large amount of soup and freeze some. Make chicken pancakes and freeze some. Make up the gelatin and have it ready. Warning: lots of kids eat huge amounts at the beginning of the diet. Glimmer of hope: my son did not vomit at all, did not strike, did not exhibit any problems except for 2 weeks of diarrhea. Best wishes, , mom to

It will be handy and convenient to use as little or as much as you need. Carol F. SCD 7 years, celiac
Guest guest
Welcome to the group , <<I admit the posts by Sheri are freaking me out greatly, but it still seems like SCD is the right thing to do. My son will probably be vomiting in a few days and Sheri will be talking me down (Good luck Sheri!!!!)...>> My kids didn't vomit but were noticeably lethargic for 1.5 days. My husband was lethargic for about 3 days. I had no obvious signs of die off. I just felt fantastic - more alive (but I was extremely ill). <<I saw earlier today a post saying that all broths must be home- made. Chicken stock is illegal beacuse you don't know what they put in it, if the chicken were seasoned etc... 2. chicken flavour is illegal because all " flavours " are illegal. They may have added sugar, starches etc... 3. sea salt may be legal but as a possible compound (more than one) ingredients you don't know what is in it. 4.honey: may have added illegal sugar, syrup, or pollen 5. veg stock: the onion may or may not have illegals The boxed stock is very illegal <<It would really help if I could poach some chicken breasts in it and use it as a soup base to make the menu easier to make...>> Making homemade broth seems way more daunting then it is. All you really need is a large pot, unseasoned chicken pieces and water...oh yeah and a stove. An even easier way to make it is in an oven. I put all the pieces in the oven on broil when the meat smells good and is browned a little I add lots of water. When the water is boiling I reduce the oven to let it simmer for a few hours.
