Guest guest
Hi All, I have yet another question. I was reading the SCD diet and yeast and how the diet can actually cause yeast flare ups as they try to take over the space of the dead bacteria. This really freaked me out b/c I thought the diet would kill both yeast and bacteria. My son is full of yeast and clostridia. We are in the intro phase and not ready to introduce yogurt yet. Can I or should I be giving probiotics during the intro? We had been using legal S Boullardi up until we started the diet. If so, what can I put it in? What would be my best course of action to avoid more yeast and get rid of what we have? Thanks in advance. Guest guest
We did legal s. boulardii and dripped yogurt during the intro diet because my son and I have yeast issues as well. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think it is okay to do probiotics while on the intro. What has helped our yeast issues thus far, in addition to the probiotics/yogurt, is cutting out all sweeteners for awhile ie no honey, eating very little fruit, and no nuts (in addition to all the starchy carbs etc cut out on the SCD). K Hashi's, Fibro, CFS, yeast/candida, copper overload, adrenal fatigue (mostly healed!!!) kids: son Rhowan 5 yrs old, chronic diarrhea/loose stools, yeast/candida, ADHD, salicylate intolerance, daughter Willow 6.5 yrs old, mild GI issues, salicylate intolerance Started SCD June 2006, went slightly off for awhile in Nov 2006, back on strict SCD starting May 2007. (Today is DAY FOUR of redoing the intro diet) > > Hi All, > > I have yet another question. Guest guest
We use SCDophilous from GI ProHealth. You can use it in the intro. Yeast Hi All, I have yet another question. Guest guest
Hi , <<I have yet another question. I was reading the SCD diet and yeast and how the diet can actually cause yeast flare ups as they try to take over the space of the dead bacteria. This really freaked me out b/c I thought the diet would kill both yeast and bacteria.>> It can cause a temporary yeast flare up in some people. The diet has been effective for some to get yeast under control. Sometimes though others may need extra help beyond the diet to regain good microbial balance. This may take the form of reduced honey and being careful with fruits and some veggies, adding yeast enzymes, natural antifungals, prescribed antifungals and/or probiotics (powders, capsules and/or fermented foods) << My son is full of yeast and clostridia. We are in the intro phase and not ready to introduce yogurt yet. Can I or should I be giving probiotics during the intro?>> If you were using probiotics before the intro then yes you can continue them. Check them first for legality. <<We had been using legal S Boullardi up until we started the diet. If so, what can I put it in?>> Some add probiotics to water, homemade pearsauce, homemade applesauce, juice etc.. S. boulardii is legal on the diet. It can help with Clostridia, diarrhea, or with (harmful)yeast overgrowth. Check for illegal fillers with your S. boulardii. << What would be my best course of action to avoid more yeast and get rid of what we have? Guest guest
Thanks Sheila, I have a few more follow up questions. We are on day 2 of the Intro. Would a few spoonfuls of pear sauce or applesauce be OK to put probiotics in at this point? My son is NOT a big fan of the grape juice and adding probiotics to it would even lessen the chances of getting it into him. Although the sacc B is generally tasteless, he can spot a color/texture change from a mile away! Also, we will continue with Sacc. B since we have used it before. Can this be combined with yeast enzymes and/or SCDopholis or would that be overkill? Once we start the yogurt, will we still need to use probiotics and/or yeast enzymes or will the yogurt take their place? Thanks so much. Will he drink them in water? Is he eating the pureed carrots? If you cool them you could mix in the probiotic. If he absolutely won't take it except in the homemade applesauce/pearsauce you could go ahead - it won't be the intro but it is prety darn close << Also, we will continue with Sacc. B since we have used it before.
