Guest guest
Sonya, I agree with ya. Your physician should support you regardless of his views on WLS. So.... if that physician doesnt fit... try on another one. (just like trying on shoes) I am glad that you found one that will support you. Good luck on your journey!! Guest guest
I think that maybe it is time to find a new doctor. You need a doctor who will listen to you and understand what you're going through. There are lots of doctors out there that will listen and want to help. OBESITY IS NOT A MENTAL ILLNESS. I think he needs a revised class in psychology. Good luck and don't be afraid to change doctors. You still have your history, just not with that doc. Best wishes, from Mich MGB 12/21/

Guest guest
Pat, As a former mental health professional, I have a suggestion, Get the psy. eval from a Dr. who can evaluate your " eating disorder " and rule it out. The " rhymes with stick " Dr. will have a hard time arguing with that, and if he tries, call the Ins. office and file a complaint against this Dr. based on his bias against " fat " and tell them it sounds like discrimination to you. The " D " word is often followed by litagation and tends to scare the companies. Just a suggestion. I am NOT suggesting litigation or even that you threaten it (if you start thinking that may be a recourse for you, consult an attorney), just some language to use. Anytime a health professional tries to superimpose their bias on you, try upiing them with another Dr. who has EXPERTISE in the area they are trying to stick you on!! I worked with severly mentally and behaviorally disordered foster children, I really had to be creative to get past roadblocks to get them care and services. This is just a suggestion and I hope it has been of some help to you. Guest guest
Sonya, And the new pcp will support you? I was one of those lucky ones that had a pcp who seeemed excited about the prospect of me having WLS, and also amazed at the procedure (Mgb) that Dr. Rutledge uses.. He cares about my health, and he knows all the years I have battled obesity in some way or the other, and how I have lost the battle every time. He knows my determination, and he knows my health. It's such a shame when you have to do what you did just because you're doctor don't want to take the time to investigate what you're asking for.. I feel you did the right thing. Good luck with the new PCP, and with your battle for the MGB. Trudy,Indiana Post-op 11-3-00 339/309 Re: The battle cry is out Pat, Yesterday was the worst day for me, and I know there will be more. Guest guest
Trudy, Thanks for the kind words about my ordeal with my PCP....but he's history and although I cried all the way home. It only made me even more determined to find a PCP that would help me. And I did, she assured me she will help and this shouldn't be a problem for me. Well, we will see about that...I think there will be lots of hill and valleys till I get to the dance. But what a wonderful bunch of people here ..... giving support and encouragement. Thank you each and every one. Stay tuned...I've only just begun! Sonya

Guest guest
Sonya, You go girl, start a revolution!! Callus and biased PCPs are not good for patients. If they have a problem with obesity, they need to go into some business where they do not have to deal with it. People, If your PCP has a problem with overweight people, then you are not receiving quality care. How could they care for you with the same compassion and skill as they do average sized people if they are biased? I had a OB/GYN Dr. who the general consensus was that he did not like women at all. He was cold and sarcastic. Why do these people get into these fields? Dr.s need to think of the patient's health and be willing to explore all avenues with the patient to come to the right decision for that patient. Rejection of a procedure out of hand is unprofessional and narrow minded. At least they need to read the materials and research it. I guess I should be quiet now!! But you have my vote girl!!
