I HAVE to have those enzymes or nothing will absorb or digest as it should. I'm interested in your comment that you found them in a generic version. Which brand name, like Creon, Ultrase, Viokase or Lipram, were you originally prescribed? Were they non-enteric or enteric coated, and do the generic kind resemble the originals? I'm very interested in learning more about this, so any details would be great. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Guest guest
Heidi, was originally prescribed the creon 20,000 take 4 at meals and 2 at snacks, and then the regulan was prescribed to be taken before meals so I take them at the same time. I set the pills up in a small ziplock bag to take with me so I don't have a bottle handy here at work but it seems like the generic name is lipram, I think. I will check when I get back home and let you know for sure. Insofar as eneteric coated I don't know if either or both are coated? I also have to take the enzymes to be at all comfortable and find I can even eat a small amount of sweet for dessert as long as I take them and not have too much pain. So I try to satisfy my sweet tooth after meals now instead of snacking later and I think I eat less sweets this way anyway. My blood sugar levels are high normal for now and I check them pretty often but I still have pain with sweets? I am not sure if the generic medicine is quite as good as the original but at the time I was on medical leave and simply couldn't afford to take the namebrand. It was either take the generic or nothing and I couldn't stand nothing. I haven't switched off of the generic now that I am back at work because they seem to be working OK for me right now. I am in one of those " honeymoon " periods without lots of pain so I don't want to change anything for fear of changing my pain level. I hope I have answered some of your questions, And I especially hope you are having a good day, Shelia
Guest guest
Shelia, Lipram are enteric coated. When I was prescribed Ultrase-16's, which are very similar to Creon, I occasionally substituted with Lipram's when our pharmacy was short of the brands. They worked just fine for me, and you shouldn't have any problems with them, either. All of those enzymes are enteric coated, which means that you don't need to take an antiacid prior to using them, like you do with a brand like Viokase, which is what I use now. I've known about Lipram for a long time. When you mentioned a generic I was hoping, perhaps, that there was something new on the market that I hadn't heard of before. Thanks for your help.
