Guest guest
My non-verbal son always needs to have all of the attention on him -- that's his personality. He uses mischief to obtain this. Well, prior to our adding the second fridge (the one he doesn't know exists), he was always trying to rummage thru the fridge and get things out that he couldn't have (he can figure out fridge locks, so those didn't help). I assumed it was a craving thing, but here's why I know it was not... The typical scenerio was him opening up the fridge and grabbing what he knew I didn't want him to have and running away with it laughing. He set it up as a game of chase, so I wondered if it was the food or the game that was most important to him. There was nothing illegal in there, but there was raw fruit and vegetables. When we first got rid of the illegals in the first place, he suddenly started playing this game with foods I could previously never pay him to eat (applesauce, goat yogurt, avacados). I first thought his taste was changing, but now that our fridge that he has access to has nothing but raw meat and onions, garlic, butter, mayo, cilantro, beverages and a few condiments, he does it with those foods! He runs out of the kitchen with a stick of butter chowing it down, giggling that he has gotten away with it. Yesterday, he ran off with a package of raw meat (he didn't eat it as I got there in time!). Today was the funniest thing of all. He darted out of the kitchen with something small enough to fit in his hand. I didn't bother chasing him as I am trying to put an end to this game (ie: extinguish the behavior). I then got distracted and forgot to check on him. When I next saw him, he was rinsing his mouth out in the sink and wiping his tongue with a washcloth. When he saw me, he giggled and then ran over to the table where I saw a raw onion with a bite out of it. I was curious as to what he would do next. He alternated taking bites out of the raw onion, giggling, watching for my reaction -- then running to the sink to rinse his mouth off! He ate about a third of a raw onion and finally gave up since I didn't react. I feel foolish for feeling guilty when I though he was starving/suffering on food restrictions! He was playing me like a fiddle! - --------------------------------- Park yourself in front of a world of choices in alternative vehicles. Visit the Yahoo! Auto Green Center. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing that story. I think that it too funny. Our kids are sooo much more clever than most people(sometimes even ourselves) give them credit for.
