Hi all,

I had a scare this morning. For the last two weeks, I have had off and on

episodes of severe sweating and the shakes and feeling lightheaded. I had

gestational diabetes with both of my children so I do have a glucometer so I

decided to check my blood sugar. It was only 52! This was about three hours

after eating. I had some juice and a granola bar and it only came up to 62. I

called my physician and he said to eat lunch and keep monitoring it. If it

continued to be low or went too high, he wanted me to get in touch with him

right away. I have an appointment with him this coming Monday, but he wants to

see me before the weekend if I continue to have problems.

For all you diabetics out there (God Bless You All!!!), could this be the start

of diabetes?

I would appreciate any information you could give me!!

Thank you!

I hope everyone is having a pain free day!!! Unfortunately, I'm not.

Thoughts and prayers to all.

sounds like you are having the opposite problem.....When you are a

diabetic...you don't make the insulin or your body rejects the insulin you

make...so in otherwords......you have high blood sugars not low.....I hope

this finds you and yours well.......Mark

,

I hate to disagree with my dear friend Mark, but in this instance I

do. I say this because before I was diagnosed with diabetes (type 1),

I also had the episodes of sweating, the shakes and the light-headed

feeling. Yet, in defense of Mark's statement concerning having high

blood sugar counts, I will say that my first diabetes HbA1c scored

11.9, meaning that my blood glucose had been running in the 700-800

range for 2-3 months.

The sweating, shakes and light-headedness are all symptoms of

hypoglycemia, (low blood glucose), which you found out when you tested

yourself and had a reading of 52. I've found that I have occasional

problems with this, (48 tonight before dinner), and have to keep a

steady eye on myself.

A person with Type II diabetes is insulin resistant, and episodes of

hypoglycermia or hyperglycemia are more common in this type. By

having gestational diabetes during your pregnancies, you are more at

risk of developing Type II diabetes than someone who didn't go through

this.

I urge you to pay close attention to how you are feeling, and if you

experience any more problems, contact your doctor immediately. Keep

some orange juice or other sweet beverages handy, continue to test

yourself periodically, and then go ahead and get in there to see your

doctor on Monday so he can do the appropriate tests.

Whatever it is, finding out early is to your best advantage, and will

allow you to figure out what to do next. Please keep us updated.

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi
