Guest guest
Hi all, We have been doing SCD for a month now. The first one failed when I didn't recognise the die off when she got fever and flu (at that time the naturopath said it is caused by virus and doesn't look like a die off to her and suggested me to give her rice instead of carrot or squash pumpkin. I gave her very soft rice or conghee for three days and noticed it has changed her backward as she didn't response again when I called her). I started SCD again but using veges & fruit in intro, stage 1,2 and 3 as I plan to start the introduction at a later time (school holiday). During this time, my husband gave our daughter chocolate which is totally illegal. I got annoyed but didn't get irritated too much as I am waiting for the right time to start again. Three days ago we started the diet again and this time another die off happened which is extremely the same like last time, flu like symptom and a bit of fever at night time with lots of whining on the 2nd day and today but something bad happened, DH came with a bottle (daughter is still prefer bottle most of times) of fuzzy bombs echinacea & vitamin C diluted in water which contains glucose sucrose, maltodextrin and fructose and she drank the whole lot. Please, please give me advise on what to say to convince DH and am I suppose to restart again ??? I feel sorry for my DD as she really gets sick of carrot & chicken soup & ground beef and the grape jello. I am sure she still can take eggs. Sorry if it is too long but I am sooo frustrated right now. Can you have a talk with him, explain how the diet works and urge him to allow a one month trial without interference? Remind him that there was immediate regression following feeding of illegals. Show him that there are sweet treats on SCD but they just have to be postponed until the diet kicks in. Explain that there is little to lose and so much advanyage to be gained by giving SCD a fair trial. Maybe you can get him to read some of the parents' reports and make a point of telling him the diet has 75-80% success rate . It may not brong a total cure but it could lead to great improvement. SCD requres strict adherence and support from other family members, especially those who have access to feeding a child. I have an odd comparison that of compromisding SCD to fleas in a dog. You see tiny indications of them and unchecked, they multiply. It's the same with the bad bacteria in the gut. Once they get a taste of their favorite starches and sugars and as Elaine used to say, they like nothing better than to party and have sex . They incrase in numbers and work to destroy the digestive process. Surely your husband does not want that to happen!rapdly Carol F. Guest guest
SCD is not easy for some to understand. The " fanatical " part of this is difficult for many to grasp as " medical necessity " . But this truly is MEDICAL NECESSITY for some of us. The originator of the diet was Dr. Sydney Valentine Haas. HE was the first to suggest " fanatical adherence " , because he learned that this is the ONLY way that SCD works. Elaine puts this in her book...that we need to have " fanatical adherence " . For some of us this means absolutely nothing illegal by mouth. Meaning that all prescriptions and supplements have to be legal too. Maybe get him to go to www.pecanbread.com<http://www.pecanbread.com/> to see how SCD works. http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdscience1.html<http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scd\ science1.html> Without this adherence, one truly would not know if SCD " did not work " for them. I hope that you can convince him to educate himself. Maybe even eat this way himself for a trial to see if it helps him too. YOU just never know. My hubby was not happy to go SCD...but he had problems seeing his daughter slip into autism and the agonies of her intestinal problems...and once he read the testimonies on www.amizon.com<http://www.amizon.com/> and other testimonies and learned about the diet we did it as a family. You see he has celiac. That was 16 months ago. If it works....it is hard to stop. LOL He has truly never felt better, slept better...and a " fat " gut that he had...is now gone for the first time. No exercise could ever take it away....the gf diet failed us....and so did his gf chocolate cream pie....because we all where fermenting instead of digesting. But like Carol said there are so many wonderful treats once we are ready for them. My family does not go without. We enjoy living now. Seeing my daughter recover from ibd/CD and the severe autism that use to go with it is the most rewarding. Guest guest
You're not alone. My husband likely has bad candida, he is addicted to nicotine and has alcohol issues at times as well. He suffers from allergies, skin conditions and odd sleep issues and refuses to think that a diet can help any of this. I think part of it is that if one puts some " faith " in something they risk it not helping and emotionally maybe cannot handle that. On top of the fact that we, as a society, are not accustomed to waiting, slow processes etc. Don't give in. Guest guest
Candida is a nasty sucker...because when if ferments we truly produce not only toxins but actual alcohol. The gut becomes an auto-brewery system. Instead of a digestion system. This is why so many beer drinkers have a " beer gut " ....this is not just fat guys. It is no wonder that many alcoholics are carb junkies too. I have never met a recovering alcoholic yet that did not go to the CARBS to get their fix instead.
