Kathleen,

Do you have diabetes? Under most circumstances, your blood sugar

reading doesn't have any direct correlation to your resting heart

rate, but because of your high resting heart rate and high blood sugar

levels, it's suspicious, since BOTH are indicators of diabetes. Your

high cholesterol, too, is common with diabetes patients.

*A normal person's blood sugar levels should average between 80-110.

*Any person with a total cholesterol reading over 200 is at risk.

*A high resting heart rates can indicate diabetes.

If you aren't diabetic, I strongly urge you to speak with your doctor

concerning this, and have him arrange for appropriate testing. I'm

sure that you are aware that anyone with chronic pancreatitis is at a

higher risk of developing diabetes, and each person should be

observant of any indicators. The PAI endorses early detection,

periodic blood testing with a glucometer prior to diagnosis, and

taking all preventative measures to avoid complications.

If you have any questions about this, please reply back.

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi

Kathleen,

The high resting heart rate is not uncommon among diabetics. I

don't have it myself, but since you are diabetic, it's not unusual

to run that high and is probably of no concern unless your doctor

says it is.

As for your high cholesterol, that, too, is often seen in diabetics,

yet most of us CPer's who have diabetes eat such a healthy, low fat

diet, the cholesterol problem typically isn't related to our diet.

If you are overweight, that could contribute to a higher cholesterol

reading, even though you are eating correctly.

Before I became diabetic my cholesterol level was 88. Then when I

was tested one year after my diabetes dx. my cholesterol rate had

jumped up to 138, and my Endo started shaking his head at me in

disapproval. I am not overweight, if anything, I'm underweight,

so it wasn't my fault and he knew that, but it's " just one of those

things " I have to deal with as a diabetic and the only way to change

it was to put me on medication. The doctor said that they don't

like diabetics to have a cholesterol level any higher than 100,

which is pretty restrictive, so he prescribed Vytorin for me to

take each night before bed. I won't know how effective it's been

until my next appointment this fall.

If you are continuing to have high blood glucose levels even though

you are following a prescribed diet and getting appropriate exercise,

then the only thing I would think it could be is that your oral

diabetes meds aren't doing what their supposed to. I'm assuming

that you are a Type II, is that correct? If you are, and you've

been on oral meds for it for a long time, it may be that your

insulin resistance is becoming more unstable and that you may

need to go on insulin, instead of just using oral meds. I've

seen this happen with other Type II's after they've had diabetes

for quite some time.

Being a Type I, I'm not as familiar with the regimen that's necessary

for a Type II, but I do know that for some there comes a time when

the diet, exercise and oral meds aren't enough, and they are required

to start on insulin injections to help control their BG.

All of these topics are things that you should discuss in depth with

your Endocrinologist. I'm confident that he or she would have more

experienced answers to these questions, and I'm very surprised that

all of these irregularities that you're having now haven't already

been brought into discussion by your specialist, especially as there

is medication that can usually bring these things under control.

Please make an appointment to discuss these questions with your

doctor, to find out what can be done to get them straightened out.

I'd be interested to hear what your Endo has to say, and what the

plan of action is.

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi

Hiedi, I appriciate you taking the time to help me understand. I thought my

resting heartrate was normal for my condition. My doc is aware and is not

concerned about it...at least right now. I had 6 ercos from Jan-April, so we

have been kinda busy on other things. " First things first " was the focus. I was

dying so we had to work on the biliary and pancreases first. My cholestrol has

never been under 200. I am underweight. (always have been) and do everything I

suposed to do. Originally, it was believed that I am type 2, howver, recently,

my doc is starting to say maybe I am type 1. I am not on any meds at all right

now, other than erytho. for the gastroparisis. Now that I am stable, we will

work on the other things, the concern was finding a choloestrol med that I can

tolerate. My organs have been through a whole lot in a short amount of time. Our

plan was to get me stable, let things settle down , and do another panel. I do

not see an endo. I only have a GI doc. Thanks
