Guest guest
Trudy, I read from you that you've dumped 3 times. All I know about dumping is that it hurts like **** and lasts quite a while. I haven't been able to find a real explanation of what it is and why it happens though. I get the impression that it is caused by eating the wrong kind of food and /or drinking with a meal instead of between meals. Can you educate me PLEASE!! so I'll know what not to do. Thanks, Elaine > Shelley, > I " M just a little thick headed... I dumped 3 times.. NO MORE Though. > LOL > Trudy > Re: Why? Guest guest
Trudy, My Love that is just tossing your cookies. A real dump is when you get clammy, hot or really cold, shaky you have no choice but to lay down and more likely you sleep for a few hours. Either way it is NO fun! Take care of yourself!!! Guest guest
Elaine, My first dump was shear stupidity, I had a croisant from burger king with eggg and sausage.. I could only eat 3 bites, I did it quickly (this is only about 10 dys from surgery) it tasted real good for about a second, then I felt like I couldn't breathe, gas developed up under my ribs pushing up, and it literally felt like the food was coming straight back up my espophagus and out again. I felt sweaty and chilled at the same time. I pulled the car over and made myself vomit... felt much better instantly, even tho. I hate vomiting. The second dump was on the same day at supper time. I had made the family some bbq beef with real slices of beef (frozen kind) and some macaroni and cheese (homemade).. I only tasted the beef, but I had a small bowl of mac/cheese.. One bite too much and OMG... I'm dumping again. The 3rd time, I came home from shopping on Thanksgiving evening after I hadn't eaten for about 6 hours (nothing). I warmed up some turkey and dressing, corn, and mashed potatoes for my hubby (really for me), and then I made myself a small saucer size plate of everything. Within 3 min. all was gone, a tablespoon of everything, and some bites off a turkey wing... This dump lasted about 12 hours, I couldn't poop, couldn't belch, couldn't fart.. could hardly move, tried to vomit, to no avail. It had to work its way out of my system, and by early morning I had a big poop, and it was pretty much over. Left my tummy real sore and tender tho. That was my absolute LAST DUMP, I eat slower, I think before I put it in my mouth, and I REMEMBER, how bad it can be if you don't. Hope this helps answer your question.. Trudy Re: Why? Guest guest
As I understand it dumping from fatty foods and dumping from sugars are different. As Trudy described dumping from fats involves mostly vomiting/diarhea/cramping like she experienced. The fats moving through the GI tract. I dumped once from sugar from drinking straight fruit juice too fast followng surgery without diluting it. It was totally different. Not really pain.... just literally feels like youre dying. Very similiar to being in shock. The sugars are introduced into a portion of the intestines that is not designed to receive them. The body senses that and floods the intestines with fluid trying to dilute the sugar. This results in a drop in blood pressure, increased heart rate, diaphoresis, and light headedness. You do in a sense get shocky from the rapid movement of fluid untill the body rectifies itself and returns to a normal state. It usually lasts 30-45 minutes. It is very severe and can be disabling. Definitely nothing I want to repeat ever again!! MGB 8/16/
