Guest guest
I have a problem (2 actually). We started the SCD about 2 weeks ago and FINALLY got the book yesterday. (We were on the base elimination diet for the previous 3 months). My problem is that my boys are both VERY reactive to Salicylates! By the time I take out all the high Salicylates and the illegal SCD foods, there sure isn't much left! (They can't have any sweeteners between the two). They also can't have protein for dinner, we've tried, it keeps them up till 11 pm. So right now, they eat protein for brekky and lunch with some steamed vegies and they have steamed vegies for dinner. (You should see it, night after night my 6 and 8 yr olds eat a huge plate of steamed vegies and ask for more! I know I'm blessed!) For snacks they have either peeled pears, peeled Golden delicious apples or our home made probotic yogurt. So, my problem is two fold. One, I WANT to give them something else...but what??? AND my 8 yr old still has dirreah (sp?) and his stomach is really swollen tonight and I don't know why or what to do about it. We are VERY strict about the diet, they don't cheat, (there's nothing in our pantry or house to cheat on!) I set up exchange points for every time they are given a lolly or choc or anything not on their diet, if they give it to me, I give them points and they can redeem the points for specific toys or games that they want! That part works really well. Any one able to help me??? Gennie
Guest guest
Gennie, Are you pealing all fruits and vegetables, and cooking them? Have you done the intro diet in the book first? You should start with the intro diet, then proceed with adding in new foods one at a time...every couple of days, giving small amounts at first, and increasing as it appears they are tolerated. All fruits and vegetables should be pealed, seeded, and well cooked for the first several months while the gut is healing. Meleah I'd really appreciate some help! I have a problem (2 actually). Guest guest
Gennie, I understand. My son has been on SCD for 1 week and he is highly sensitive to salicylates also. Hopefully we can both get it working better for us. Bonita I'd really appreciate some help! I have a problem (2 actually). We started the SCD about 2 weeks ago and FINALLY got the book yesterday. Guest guest
First let me ask: Since you just got the book. Did you do introductory diet for a minimum of two days? Are they getting hidden sugars or starches in their supplements? Are you using the goat yogurt, accidolphilus or a good probiotic that is SCD legal to fight the war of the gut bugs? I might have some good news for you. AS the bad gut bugs die off this sensitivity with salysilyates will likely vanish. You see...the bad gut bugs release extra phenols into our blood...raising the load to to high. Making it so that some foods make us ill. With SCD they starve out....Without them...no more salysilayate over load problem. The liver can now handle this low load. But to do this you will have to do SCD correctly. Review chapter 9 and 10. I read this book over and over and over. Elaine said unless it causes a horrible or deadly reaction that we should eat it. Or face possible malnutrition. She wanted us to eat as balanced as possible. This was the first sensitivity that we had that vanished. But we trusted the goat yogurt...and this helped huge. YOUR fanaitcal attitude is wonderful. I wish you well. Does this include the proteins from the intro diet - the broiled burgers, 4 hour cooked chicken, broiled fish, eggs? << So right > now, they eat protein for brekky and lunch with some steamed vegies > and they have steamed vegies for dinner.
