How do you know how your kid's stools are if they won't let you see them?! My

child is 6 & non-verbal, but in the past month or so he has come to expect

complete privacy when on the toilet. He secretly slips into the b-room now and

locks the door! He gets really mad when I try to follow him in and won't go if

I am in there. I have no idea if he is having good BMs anymore and if he

suddenly switches from D to C, I wouldn't know. Has this happened to anybody

else?

I've had this issue, and I don't know what the BMs are like anymore for the most

part. I can get in there before he flushes every so often, but usually not. I

rely a lot more on behavioral symptoms now, and I also get a metabolic analysis

done(urine test) from Genova Diagnostics every couple of months. One of the

things it checks is disbiosis. That helps me know if he's got any yeast issues.

The lab is good, and the behavior is as well, I assume that we're on the right

track. If behavior changes or the lab shows disbiosis(without noticeable

behavior changes), then I move back some with SCD.

Hi ,

How about a secret camera that you activate every time that he goes to

the potty.

How about sealing the toilet with a chain and lock and putting a potty

chair for him.

I would like to see what other parents have figured out.

He won't poop in anything unusual -- not even those hat-like things made for

stool tests that attach to the seat & unless the camera was inside the toilet,

it wouldn't help since he likes to flush as he goes (ie: he flushes while

sitting and will even flush separately for the pee pee and poop, so there is

nothing to see when he stands up to wash his hands. When we are at a public

place, he rushes in to the stall, pushes me away and locks the door.

He is in some ways more difficult than most non-verbal kids as he doesn't have

the typical delays that usually go with being NV. He watches age-appropriate

movies, likes books that are advanced and does age-appropriate peer activities

(ones that do not involve being verbal), so he is really stubborn about things

like " not being a baby " and having mom help him with toileting.

This is good to know. I guess I'm worried about the development of constipation

since I see that sometimes happens to kids who previously have had chronic

diarrhea. I would hate to not realize my kid is backed up!

When my kids decided they wanted privacy I asked for a description of

the poopies - trophies, pudding poops, etc... Since your son is non-

verbal maybe you can get him to point at different pictures etc..

Since he likes to flush you may have to encourage him to look before

flushing. For my son the silly names were enough but you may want to

give credits or a little treat etc...

Okay, here's what I ended up doing. I hid behind the shower curtain both last

night and this morning and was disappointed to see that the diarrhea is back!
