Guest guest
We have been SCD for 6 days and about three days ago my son suddenly started craving salt. This is very weird b/c he never even liked potato chips or anything salty before this. Recently I have had to hide the salt shaker b/c he literally pours it into his mouth! In addition, the boy who used to be able to " hold it " forever b/c he didn't want to stop playing to go to the bathroom is now needing to pee several times a day. Is this normal on the diet? Has anyone else experienced this? Mommy to 4 yrs pdd-nos/asd/Asperger's Traits (almost fully recovered) and 8 months (so far so good!) Guest guest
Hi , I'm on the SCD intro diet for UC and I've been craving salt. I've never salted my food before and now I can't eat my food without copious amounts of salt added. I'm not sure why that is, but your son's cravings are consistant with mine. For whatever reason the salt cravings for me are more intense during the intro stage of the diet than the " regular " SCD. As far as peeing goes, I've had more " sensations " (i.e. feeling the need to pee) since going on the intro diet. However, I haven't necessarily been peeing any more than normal. Good luck. Has anyone else experienced this?>> Since SCD uses fresh food there is less salt than traditional SAD foods. I'd watch and make sure he doesn't get too much salt as it sounds like he is trying to feed a craving. Increased urination is very common at the beginning. As inflammation in the injured tissues decreases the body will release fluids - pee it out. Guest guest
My son always pees a lot, so I couldn't tell a difference with SCD, but both my younger kids (the only ones following the diet) started doing what you are talking about with salt. They would even pour out the shaker onto a plate and sit down to eat a bowl of salt! I don't know why SCD would trigger this & my kids never ate processed foods before SCD, so I couldn't attribute it to giving up salty foods. Do you use celtic sea salt? I recommend you switch to it if you don't already use it. It contains 84 minerals as opposed to the 4 minerals found in ordinary sea salt or the 1-2 minerals found in table salt. The sodium is not dangerous when you consume celtic sea salt, so you can use it liberally. It's more flavorful too, so a little goes a long way. - Sheila Trenholm wrote: Hi , <<We have been SCD for 6 days and about three days ago my son suddenly started craving salt. Guest guest
We are currently transitioning my son from GFCF to SCD and this is his first week on 95% SCD foods. He too is craving salt and peeing a lot. Before GFCF (a little over a month ago) he loved eating the salt off pretzels (he would rarely eat the pretzels). Now pretzels are forbidden so I started frying green plantains and putting salt on them as a delivery vehicle (I'm still looking for an SCD alternative). He won't eat the plantain, just lick the salt off. Suggestions? We can't do nuts or nut flour items since they make his poops soft. He needs to heal a bit more before we can reintroduce them. As for peeing, before he started transitioning to SCD he was starting to go all night without peeing in his pull ups. For two or three days he's peed through the diaper, the sheets and to the mattress pad. Lot's of laundry this week! Last night he did not pee through his diaper so it looks like it may just be a temporary thing. Sheila's comment about the injured tissues healing makes total sense. I just wanted to share, and let you know that someone else is going through this at the same time. Hopefully we can work through it together. mom to Katarina 8, atypical Down's Syndrome with ASD, food intolerances, yeast, SCD 4 weeks and Marcus, 4, high functioning ASD, food intolerances, transistion from GFCF to SCD > Hi , > > <<We have been SCD for 6 days and about three days ago my son suddenly > started craving salt. Guest guest
I buy coarse sea salt and let just eat the salt crystals. That way I don't have to cook and discard anything. (BTW eats salt because he craves it, but also because the doctor recommended it to combat dizziness caused by a heart reflex that makes 's blood pressure drop when he stands up quickly.) , mom to putting salt on > them as a delivery vehicle (I'm still looking for an SCD > alternative
