Guest guest
Our son has been non-dairy SCD for almost one year now, so I decided two weeks ago to introduce goat's milk yogurt. I started with small amounts (1/8 tsp once daily), and then increased the amounts slowly for the first week. All was well. Then, on the 8th day I gave him 1/4 cup mixed with blueberries. Over the past week or so, he has reverted to pre-SCD potty behaviors, namely, frequent " smears " and an unwillingness to poop. In fact, we'll find poop smears in his underwear and immediately take him to the potty, but he won't push. Jack is a regular guy so the not pushing thing is worrisome (could he be in pain?? he's never been constipated). He is also scratching his bottom, again, but I think that's because the poop in the pants is making his bottom sore. We're thinking of pulling the yogurt, much to my dismay. What do you all think? Guest guest
, My ASD daughter acts like her belly hurts and becomes constipated again when I give her the yogurt. I eat the yogurt, but I do tend to become constipated when I eat it, so I try to offset it with lots of fruits and veggies. (It's not as big a deal if I become constipated, because I know why--I don't just sit there in pain not able to tell anyone how I feel the way my non-verbal daughter would.) We've been on the diet for a long time and have experienced tremendous healing, so as a veteran to some extent, I advise to keep the yogurt (and possibly all dairy?) out of Jack's diet, and give him that all important pro-biotic benefit with a supplement. My daughter strongly depends on her Lactobacillus acidophilus. If we run out, she goes down hill fast until we get it into her again. We get it from Kirkman Labs. You may email me offlist if you have any specific questions. Nannette, (Mom) SCD 22 months for IBD daughter, , 15 yo, SCD 22 months, autism--daily healthy BM's and feeling great!!!! You may want to either reduce it substantially or stop for a few days and then much more slowly increase the amounts so his body can adapt. Guest guest
Hi Nannette, <<My ASD daughter acts like her belly hurts and becomes constipated again when I give her the yogurt.>> Are you using the goat yogurt with the SCDophilus? Cooling the milk to room temp before adding the starter? Fermenting at 100-110°F for 24-29 hrs; dripping the yogurt? Did you start with a small amount for your daughter and slowly work up (1/8 tsp)?
